Post-Tropical Storm Rafael is degrading, quickly, and only noteworthy effects expected are intermittent coastal surges.

Tropical cyclone Rafael passes onto the Gulf of Mexico, and regains some force, due to warm waters and lack of top shearing winds.

While the cyclone is not directly over landmasses, expect hurricane force winds around 30miles from core ( "eye") and tropical storm winds 120miles from core. Maximum sustained winds 105mph.

At this point, Rafael seems headed to E #Mexico coats, but not expected, so far, to make landfall. The system remains a hazard to navigation in the Gulf and moderate coastal surge expected to affect Mexico, #texas, #Louisiana and #Florida Keys.

Hurricane Rafael runs roughshod over W #Cuba . The whole of the island is without power, and fuel transportation is VERY limited given damage to MSRs and telecomms.

As the cyclone disperses energy over the island, it veers Westward, towards Gulf of Mexico, and reduces sustained wind speed.

Enjoy the benefits of NHC/NOAA while it still exists, available to people. Remember that the inbound #tRump regime has stated it will privatize and turn NHC/NOAA as a subscription service.
