Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-Ark.) requested help for people who were impacted by the mid-March tornadoes, some of the state’s worst since 1997. The Trump administration denied Sanders’s request for funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She wrote again to Trump to appeal the denial. In a letter, signed by both Arkansas senators and its four representatives, the lawmakers asked Trump to reconsider. “As Governor Sanders noted in her request, these storms caused catastrophic damage across the state, resulting in disastrous amounts of debris, widespread destruction to homes and businesses, the deaths of three Arkansans, and injuries to many more,” the lawmakers wrote. They noted that just weeks later, the state was hit with another round of severe storms, including a “generational flood event” that compounded damage for many of the same counties and included three more deaths. “Given the cumulative impact and sheer magnitude of destruction from these severe weather events, federal assistance is vital to ensure that state and local communities have the capabilities needed to rebuild,” the lawmakers said. The Arkansas delegation said a preliminary assessment of damage had an estimated cost of $8.8 million and asked that Sanders’s request for a 30-day extension on submitting a disaster declaration be granted. The state needs additional time to conduct analysis on the damage in 63 of its 75 counties.

Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee of Arkansas seeks routine federal assistance from FEMA but is told to beat feet.

Look, if the GOP wants to make changes to FEMA policy, sure, let’s discuss and implement a transition plan. But the Convicted-Felon-in-Chief is taking the bull-in-a-china-shop approach, refusing to release federal funding already approved and in the budget, leaving states with no fallback plan or time to prepare a post-FEMA plan.

Bottom line: Cruel, capricious and spreading chaos. Just another day of Republican rule.

I do not gloat about Trump refusing to send FEMA assistance to states that overwhelmingly voted for him and whose many county roads are festooned with maga propaganda. Or were, until the tornadoes ripped through. (And floods and hurricanes)
I am outraged that fellow Americans are being left adrift by an administration just because the mad king feels like it. I am incensed that this festering demented syphilitic fool is still on the throne when it is clear he wants to kill us all. We have been captured by idiots and cowards.

RawStory: Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) pleaded with President Donald Trump to "reconsider" his denial of disaster relief after tornadoes hit Arkansas. Cotton, who has opposed similar aid for blue states, joined the Arkansas delegation in writing a letter directly to Trump to support Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders' request for funds.

On Friday, Sanders appealed the federal government's denial in a letter telling Trump that her state was in "dire need of federal assistance." However, Trump's administration has refused to budge. "Based on our review of all of the information available, it has been determined that the damage from this event was not of such severity and magnitude as to be beyond the capabilities of the state, affected local governments, and voluntary agencies. Accordingly, we have determined that supplemental federal assistance is not necessary," Arkansas Division of Emergency Management spokesperson Lacey Kanipe was told in the federal government's denial.
