You may have missed (I did) that Shell & some other energy groups have left the business group Science Based Targets, that was seeking to develop an energy sector NetZero target, after it became clear that that such a target would require energy firms to stop developing new oil & gas fields...

Hilariously, the energy firms had been able to string along this attempt (no doubt used to reassure Govts that the sector was doing something) for six years before reaching this point!

The bloke who said the Black Summer Bushfires were started by 'self-combusting horse manure' is back, joining Barnaby to sabotage the coalition by opposing net zero. Both McCormack and Joyce spout a few lies in their tirades, notably the fallacy "Why should we address carbon pollution when China doesn't?". Erm, China is screaming ahead in that area, electrifying transport, clearing its air, planting billions of trees and building renewables. It is actually reducing emissions while growing its economy. We do the opposite. #auspol #netzero #LNP #China

The UK announces the final go-ahead on the £38 billion Sizewell C nuclear plant project.

The UK government, the largest shareholder in the project, said Sizewell C, in eastern England, will cost around £38 billion (€44 billion) to construct.

The UK has pivoted toward nuclear power since the start of the war in Ukraine, citing energy security, net zero and the need to modernise its ageing power stations.

I think what is spooking the bazillionaires is the approaching human zero population growth (oh, let's call it #NetZero!!) For the 1st time since the beginning of the industrial age, it looks like sometime in the 2080s world population growth will hit zero.

I suspect we really need to use "net', because it appears to be caused by… bazillionaires, via all the reasons you mention (plus farming us plebes with our pension plans, our retail investing) and induced #ClimateChange causing war.

Ed Miliband is to explicitly call out politicians who reject #NetZero policies for betraying future generations in an unprecedented update to parliament about the state of the #ClimateCrisis, which he is calling “an exercise in radical truth-telling”.

Net zero - EU member states must not be allowed to count controversial carbon credits from developing countries.

Climate busting, globally profiting corporates of rich countries, must deliver accountable, real emissions reductions, & pay for reparations.

2/2. Is net zero just with equality & global climate justice at heart?

No, it works in the same markets that brought us to global wealth disparity & their power - delivering austerity, war, tax injustice & climate breakdown.

#Reform 's, fossil fuels corporate shareholders interests & anti climate action - denial & spin is made too easy, because there's no #netzero 'just climate transition'.

Just had a look at the latest climate report from the CCC.

Short version is, we were doing a decent job. Actually met our targets for cutting emissions.

But now the government's lost its nerve. They're backtracking on key stuff like phasing out gas boilers and generally dragging their feet. The easy wins from closing coal power stations are done. Now for the hard graft.

We need to get a move on with offshore wind, solar, heat pumps, and electric cars. The targets are still doable, but not all the while the politricksters in charge keep faffing about. It's just common sense, really. Think of the children 😱
