wow, my friend Eve (fellow Jewish music researcher who lives in NY) sent me this great Jewish Currents post from 2015 which I was totally unaware of.
"...I’m sure there is a doctoral dissertation waiting to be written about the relationship between the activities of the various Foner orchestras and the death rates of members of the Apex Social Club, but I leave that for some other scholar to pursue."

my latest blog post, which is quite niche but is a process I wish I had known about earlier in researching American folk music (in my case, obviously #klezmer, but the same process could be used for a lot of genres). hope it helps someone in their research at some point. I used Ukrainian-American fiddler Pawlo Humeniuk as an example because he rules.

Fun story- I worked in a bar that’s been around since 1933in Fredonia, NY for all of my undergrad years. One (probably inebriated) night I tacked up behind the bar the flyer from my first concert ever (James Brown) and another (Talking Heads) poster I’d torn down from a bulletin board so I wouldn’t forget to buy tics. I went back last week to find they’ve both now been framed and are solidly part of the bar’s history. Thought that was kinda cool!

40 years ago this week, "Sussudio" by #PhilCollins reached the top spot, replacing "Heaven" by #BryanAdams after two weeks. Collins said that Sussudio was a nonsense word he made up to match the rhythm he'd composed on a drum machine, and he planned to replace it later. Then he never found anything better. Sounds similar to the story of the "Sesame Street" theme lyrics. youtube.com/watch?v=r0qBaBb1Y- #1980s #MusicHistory #MusicVideo
