This collection of rather weird and wonderful sculpted heads are carved onto the corbels of decorative arches over the entrances to a series of tenement closes on Killearn Street in the Possilpark area of Glasgow. As far as I know they're unique and I've not come across any simlar ones on other tenements elsewhere in the city (yet!).

Love these grotesques on Saint Mary's Episcopal Cathedral on Great Western Road in Glasgow. It was designed by George Gilbert Scott and was built in the 1870s. I don't know if they're original or if they were added as part of relatively recent refurbishments, but there's a very similar grotesque on the main buildings of Glasgow University which were also designed by Gilbert Scott around the same time.

🚨 infrequent reminder 🚨
a gargoyle is really only a gargoyle if it has a spout designed to convey water run off away from the building (like a gutter and for the exact same reasons we use gutters today).

a grotesque is a decorative statue used as architectural accents frequently used in gothic designs. This can be on the wall, roof, etc.
