Today I
* stressed over a failed $51 payment and spent a while on hold trying to find out what to do about it (more #mutualaid would definitely help here)
* made more progress on the solar panel bumper (drilled holes in the wood pieces and fastened most of them together, except for the top side expansion piece that has to be cut lengthways and is taking much effort so I am cutting it a bit at a time),
* fixed my saw's (missing screw to hold on its handle) problem with a coach bolt and nut,
* made a start on chopping up the motor housing for the swing arm motor I removed from the front of the bus yesterday,
* dismantled a higgledy-piggledy ladder for its wood and screws,
* and enjoyed some nice sandwiches.
Saturday morning entertainment: Fix the egg slicer!
This piece of crap came from Lidl and broke on the first use. Don't buy it. But if you already did, it's better to fix it than to buy another.
A bit like wire-wrap in electronics. Cuts your fingers, too. A few kinks remain in the wire, hopefully making for more interesting egg slices. Now glued back together under a table leg.

Fixed. Don't know where the heatshrink went, probably somewhere in a box in the dark garage. Two alternating layers of PVC and self-amalgamating rubber each will have to do.
The ECU had meanwhile lit up the check engine light, so the car would've soon gone to limp mode.
I've cleared the DTC and this time it didn't come back. The temperature reading is also plausible again.
The ECU needs this data for DPF regeneration.

Siri not working correctly? I might have the way of fixing it.
After updating to iOS 18, my Siri was having major problems, and thanks to someone on an email list, my Siri is all fixed and working properly.
So to fix a Siri issue, do the following:
1, Open settings, and swipe to Siri and double tap.
2, Swipe to where it says the language and double tap.
3, Now you are going to choose a different language. So swipe through them and double tap the one you want to change it too. Now, currently it does not tell you if it has been selected, but after double tapping it, it is. Keep in mind that you need to choose another language that you can understand so you can change it back.
4, It will ask you if you are sure you want to do this, so just choose the change button. Then hit the back button to go back.
5, Now with your Siri set to a different language, if you swipe through the screen, you will notice that the talk to Siri setting is turned off. Do not change this. This means that Siri has been reset.
6, Now go back to the language setting and change it back to your language, then hit the back button to go back.
7, It should put all of your settings back the way they were, but if for some reason the talk to Siri switch is turned off, no worries, just double tap it to turn it on. If you have to do that, then you will probably have to set up Siri again. But it is worth it if it fixes Siri.

Today, like many other West Australian teachers, I'm not going to work this morning.
It's interesting that our industrial action is represented in the media as about pay. We're not striking over salary - we're striking because the system is broken.
My son has had no Phys Ed teacher all year. He's had a procession of relief teachers which, for a special needs child, is extremely distressing. He attends an inner city public school, but staffing shortages are statewide.
Speaking of special needs students, I'd like to look after my own without having to skip lunch to ensure their needs are met.
I'd like the Education Department to give me a personal device so I can do my job
(more efficiently). If I want a laptop, I have to lease one.
I'd like an acknowledgement of how teaching has recently become more difficult and demanding, especially during #COVID19, when we kept schools open and tried to keep students safe.
I enforced the mask mandate far more often than a rank-and-file police officer. I've probably been threatened and assaulted more times than many police officers too. And the statewide mobile phone ban? Guess who enforces that every single day.
So many of my colleagues have left teaching: re-trained or resigned due to burnout and stress. Who suffers? The students.
It's not about the pay. We're tired, and we need support. We're underfunded and under-resourced. We need to improve conditions for students. We need to fix the system.

Of course, if my furnaces today used that design, I wouldn't be #ranting.
I have two #furnaces - at the time this home was built, it was the style here to put in two furnaces, one for the upstairs, and one for the main floor and basement. Kind of like a really #janky #zone system. I replaced both of them when I bought this #house.
Well, last #winter, the blower motor in one #died. It's kind of nice having two; the house was #chilly but #livable while I was getting it #fixed.
