THE NEW TALKING POINT:

"This isn't a #TradeWar, it's a #DrugWar."

#Lutnick made this point on #MtP, and then Economic Director #Hasset flat out said it on ABC's #ThisWeek.

They are starting to realize #DonnieDumbass' #tariffs are going to RAISE prices and spike #inflation after running on the promise they would do the opposite, so they are test-flying a new justification for their disastrous #TradePolicy: #Fentanyl (despite how little comes from #Canada.)

Another excellent piece out of @TexasObserver on the Drug War in Texas.

>Oliverson said the bill only applied to fentanyl “because it is that much more dangerous, because it is that much more powerful. … People say to me, ‘I don’t like the idea of giving people test strips because it gives them confidence in the illegal drugs that they’re buying, and I want to discourage people from using illegal drugs,’” he said. “Well, I want to discourage people from using illegal drugs too, but having them insta-killed by a mislabeled pill that they bought, the first time they took it, is not an effective strategy for recovery.”

>While other drug-checking legislation failed that session, Oliverson’s bill passed the House 143-2—but it never received a hearing in the Senate Criminal Justice Committee. “They just could not get over the idea that you are making it safer for people to use illegal drugs and that we shouldn’t make it safe for people to use illegal drugs,” Oliverson said, “because they shouldn’t be using illegal drugs at all.”

I dipped out of the city council meeting to watch the I-137 community forum, was pretty obvious how this was gonna play out.

The council has passed the SODA/SOAP bills which makes looking like a homeless person, a sex worker, or drug user in Seattle a reason a cop can stop you.

You can be banned from neighborhoods and fined $5k for existing in the wrong places.

#MANILA – When #RodrigoDuterte was running for president eight years ago, he vowed to order the #police and the #military to find #DrugUsers and #DrugTraffickers to kill them. He said he would offer them immunity. In the months after, #PoliceOfficers and #Vigilantes mercilessly gunned down tens of thousands of people in #SummaryExecutions.

#Datasets obtained and analyzed by Rappler show how the drug war pushed an already overwhelmed #PrisonSystem to its breaking point. #JailPopulations soared beyond the 100,000 mark, and drug defendants – and other defendants who became collateral damage – were held hostage by delayed trials. #Philippines

#Marcos, if he was serious, should have explicitly vowed to give justice to #Duterte’s victims even at the start of his presidency in 2022. Right now, Lina and other widows feel like pawns in a chess game dominated by politicians who are trying to survive until the next elections. #Philippines
