You Should Be Angry Over the Lack of Federal Privacy Reform
Data breaches and leaks have grown so large, entire countries have now started getting hit. Yet, privacy reform continues to be elusive.

National Public #Data confirms breach exposing Social Security numbers
Looks like #NPD has finally come out and confirmed that at least some of the data leaked came from their systems. They don’t provide much information though.
You’d think they’d be a little more forthcoming, given the situation. But that’s obviously asking for too much.
Reminder: even if your email is found in this breach, it doesn’t necessarily mean your SSN was leaked. A portion of the data is also inaccurate (wrong SSNs to the wrong people, for example) and many people have repeated rows (which may hold inaccurate information.) The data allegedly also includes information of deceased individuals. The data also includes UK and Canadian citizens.
The 2.9 billion records cited in the major news outlets does NOT mean 2.9 billion unique records. There are not 2.9 billion SSNs.
The NPD breach is unreal. It's maybe the most dangerous data breach ever. This is because:
1. It impacts billions of people
2. It's a doxing hope chest
3. ID theft nightmare
Apparently freezing your credit files is a great way to protect yourself. Here's a guide on doing that:
“Massive data leak may include the personal data of every person in the US, UK, and Canada”
So why haven't data brokers been strictly regulated?
