"[...] convenience is not the ultimate good. In fact, too much convenience is bad for us — it dulls our ability to solve problems and think on our feet. The convenience con is nothing but giant corporations preying on our evolutionary instinct to conserve energy. And once you’ve bought in to the con, it’s like a swimming pool: it requires quite a lot more effort to get out than to get in."

Does the Zoom LiveTrak L6 work on Debian 12?

In short: yep, it works! If you need a multipurpose, relatively inexpensive interface that works on Linux (and, I presume, Android, iOS, Mac OS, and Windows) and can serve as a totally awesome little mixer as well, I highly recommend the L6. I've had it for a few months, and it has saved me lots of headaches.

I was asking myself where innovation comes from, especially in regard to #opensource #foss #software.
I have a background in #linuxaudio, and have the feeling that linuxaudio software only runs after proprietary solutions, trying to emulate what's been made.
Am I blindsided? Is it so complicated that you need to have funds and a big team?
Don't get me wrong, there are great soft out there, but lately, everything looks a bit the same, maybe more refined, but not really innovative either.

Anyone on fedi knows of a good, cheap audio interface that works well on linux with reasonable latency for live recording, and lots of inputs?

I’m eyeing the UMC1820 but I wonder if I missed any options. Old second hand stuff is fine too if it fits the bill!

Musicking on Linux is a lot like gaming on Linux. OK, you tried it--but have you tried it RECENTLY?

I consider myself fortunate to have started messing around with #Linux in 2000, because I have a little perspective on just how great it has become over the years. Especially when you consider the mainstream alternatives.

Free #Synth: Six-Sines by Baconpaul

A open-source Yamaha-style TX81Z MPE FM Synthesizer plugin for macOS, Linux, and Windows.

#SixSines is a small synthesizer which explores audio rate inter-modulation of signals. Some folks would call it "an FM synth" but it's really a bit more PM/AM, and anyway that's kinda not the point.
