On my daily walk this morning, I ran into the same person I mentioned in the post above. They were birding again.

They said they had started reading the book, and asked if it focuses on people with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. I said I recall it focusing on people with schizophrenia, but that the LEAP method is useful for all kinds of situations.

Then I took autism as an example, and revealed the fact that I'm autistic. I explained how people don't listen and empathize (the "L" and the "E" in LEAP) when we talk about our lived experience. Someone will report sensory overstimulation and be met with flat out disbelief, or minimization.

Today, when I was on my daily walk, I ran into someone who was birding and had in their back pocket "I'm not Sick, I Don't Need Help" by Dr. Xavier Amador.

I stopped and talked to them. They had not read the book yet.

I praised the book. I explained the LEAP method, and anosognosia. I explained how it is a symptom that comes and goes, and how people cycle through the psychiatric system.
