Ick. "Baltimore Community Foundation acknowledged that it awarded none of the $16 million it raised to #survivors or families, and instead directed it to port workers, a human services center in Dundalk and a forthcoming museum exhibit about the catastrophe". #KeyBridge https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/community/local-news/baltimore-key-bridge-victim-fund-HA65GXYX5JHY5O5LOKXHFLNPKA/
They raised $16 million for Key Bridge disaster relief. None of it went to victims’ families.
The Baltimore Community Foundation raised money for the Maryland Tough, Baltimore Strong fund under the explicit premise that victims’ families would see some of it

The Key bridge, seen Friday from my window seat on approach to #BWI.
On my last day of work before retirement last year I took some photos in Baltimore. This one is from the 8th floor of the parking garage facing southeast toward the harbor. In the center is Orioles Park at Camden Yards and in the background is the Francis Scott Key Bridge which is no more. It collapsed March 26, 2024 after a cargo ship struck one of the piers.

The Dali is finally underway and headed for Norfolk. The crushed containers visible. The ship hit the #keybridge in March. Four of the original 21 crew had been on the ship from the beginning. They did not have shore passes or visas to enter the US. Four #tugboats accompanied them. Traffic was shut down for an hour on the #baybridge while the #ship passed under.

The cargo ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has been refloated and towed to port with the assistance of five tugboats. The ship, named The Dali, had been trapped under debris from the destroyed bridge since March, when the collapse killed six construction workers. CBS News has more on what’s next for the Dali and the bridge.

@easwatch #MDwx #KeyBridge #EAS for Anne Arundel County,Baltimore County,The City Of Baltimore: At 5 PM, there will be small charges used to remove part of the Key Bridge wreckage. This will create loud noises and smoke. Its a standard operation to safely cut the steel into pieces. For your safety, we recommend using hearing protection outside if you are within 2,000 yards of the site. More than six weeks after the Key Bridge collision and collapse, M/V Dali remains trapped under the wreckage. The unified response team just revealed its plan for blowing up these segments. #Baltimore residents may get a small fireworks show this weekend.
(Page features computer-generated video simulation of the plan.)
From the Key Bridge Response 2024 Unified Command: As of April 26, "171 commercial vessels have transited the four alternate channels, including five of the vessels waiting to depart the Port of Baltimore since March 26." #Baltimore #Maryland #KeyBridge https://www.keybridgeresponse2024.com/post/update-16-multimedia-release-unified-command-reflects-on-month-s-progress-during-joint-recovery-and
I haven’t said much about the #keybridge collapse but I will say this: all this talk of making bridges able to withstand ship collisions is wrongheaded. What we should be focusing on is preventing ships going out of control. Had there been a couple tugs guiding that ship, or had they had a more robust power plant the crash would not have happened.
The things we take for granted…..

This picture from the second to last press release from the Key Bridge Response 2024 Unified Command is just such a strange scale I had to share it:
"Response crews began removing shipping containers using a floating crane barge at the site of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on April 7, 2024. The Unified Command is continuing efforts in support of removing the M/V Dali, which is required to fully re-open the Fort McHenry Channel. (Key Bridge Response 2024 Unified Command photo.)"
