And of course they have moved to the workflow that is guaranteed to destroy customer retention

1. chat bot that requests a "simple" description of the problem and redirects you to community help after offering unrelated solutions
2. Option of chatting with support that's usually closed but when open
3.. re-asks you for the problem, your name, your contact info, and then winds up suggesting reinstalling your operating system from low earth orbit just to make sure it isn't a problem on your end...

Then you start searching for alternative products... #intuit (which likely have the same bugs because .. humans can't ship software anymore..)

The whole renaissance of software development with AI and wonderful modern tools is going well. #quickbooks #intuit package has a "digital assistant" button on the top right hand corner. That pulls up this workflow if you press it.. They could easily have vibe coded this solution... for all its complexity.

The #IRS #Tax Filing #Software TurboTax Is Trying to Kill Released as #OpenSource
#DirectFile and the IRS's #FreeFile program more broadly have been the subject of years of #lobbying efforts by financial technology giants like #Intuit, which makes #TurboTax. #DOGE also sought to kill Direct File.
About 300,000 people used it last year as part of a limited pilot program, and those who did gave it incredibly positive reviews!

404 Media · The IRS Tax Filing Software TurboTax Is Trying to Kill Just Got Open SourcedDirect File has been open sourced, and its creators have left government to continue working on the "future of tax filing."

I suspect if everyone estimated their #taxes and sent them in quarterly, trying not to send too much and not to incur a penalty for sending in less than 90% owed, people would scrutinize taxes more. Companies couldn’t promote tax software with “Santa Claus is coming to town for #tax season” type ads like this one from #Intuit #TurboTax..

How is #Intuit so bad at everything except, seemingly, income-tax software?
They spammed me today at an email address which to my knowledge has never had an Intuit account associated with it. When I click the unsubscribe link it brings me to their login page. But I can't log in with that email address—no account!—so I can't unsubscribe.
This is both stupid and illegal; working unsubscribe links are a requirement of the CAN-SPAM act.
I sent them a #privacy complaint. We'll see what happens.

CEO, meet Streisand Effect...

(We declined.)

People with that CEO's mentality never seem to get it that if you don't want people knowing that you said something damning, then it's totally on you not to say it in the first damn place -- because asking (or, worse, demanding) that it not be repeated is even more damning.

...and I've always said -- since, like, the 1990s -- that income taxes should be, by default, the government sends you a fully-accounted bill and you either pay it or dispute it.

[waits for someone to note that this would cost jobs in the massive tax-preparation industry...]

This morning, #Quickbooks sent my wife a notification at an email address she has never given either Quickbooks or her employer.
My best guess is at some point some company she contracted for entered that address and her SSN into Quickbooks while paying her, and #Intuit has done an SSN match and decided it's ok to merge records for my wife in their system and use one of her email addresses for a purpose she never consented to and does not want.
Ridiculous and unacceptable.

For the past five years, my wife has been unable to view her paystub in #Intuit #Quickbooks Workforce.
Over the years her employer has tried repeatedly to fix the problem, often attempting to enlist Intuit's assistance, to no avail.
A month ago they finally seemed to have fixed it, by having my wife create a completely new email address on Yahoo to use for her Quickbooks login.

I love the sound of panting desperation in the morning.

"I wanted to reach out to you one last time about your QuickBooks software. Several key functions and security patches were discontinued on 5/31/2023.

Please find some time on my calendar so we can discuss your options. I'll also try to reach out by phone.

Schedule a time to speak with me!

I look forward to working with you."

#Intuit will never see another penny from me. Fuck #SaaS.
