#Geocaching announced another round of 4,000 virtual geocaches going to be released in February 2026.
Virtual geocaches highlight unique spaces, generally in areas where placing a physical #geocache would be illegal or impractical.
Technically they are a legacy geocache type, but every year for the last few years Geocaching has allowed a couple thousand cache owners to place a new one. These have been determined by lottery, favouring players who contribute significantly to the game.
I got selected to place a virtual geocache in 2022 and I "placed" it at the plaza in downtown St. Helens, Oregon, with a focus on the Halloweentown movies that were filmed there (and the festival that happens annually since). Over 150 geocachers have logged a find on it since then.
I am eligible for the lottery this time around. It would be cool to get a second one, but I'm just excited to see a few more neat places to visit.

Runestones while #geocaching
#Goodmorning from Fisksätra. Today: #geocaching with my friend from teenage years, when we used to help each other out with text adventure games. And you?
Hi everyone,
I feel like a re-introduction is long overdue!
My name is Anna, and I'm an assistant professor of Algorithmics at the Delft University of Technology, specialising in combinatorial optimisation, symbolic AI, constraint programming, propositional model counting, operations research and reasoning under uncertainty.
I'm a nerd, a feminist and a traveller, not always in that order.
In my spare time I like to hike and go geocaching. I try to go swing dancing a few times a week. I am a Trekkie. I want to learn how to draw. I am an Indomie and Obsidian enthusiast. Based in the Netherlands, I miss Belgium, Canada and Singapore.
Since a job in academia somehow always is personal, I have chosen to mix professional interactions with the more personal ones on this platform. At least for now. Obviously, my opinions do not necessarily reflect those of my employer yadiyadiyada.
Hope to keep interacting with you all!
#Geocaching, #swimming, #boardgames, #reading. A happy Sunday, well spent with wife and friends.
#Goodmorning from Fisksätra. Today: #geocaching, #boardgames, maybe a swim. And you?
I'm back from Minnesota and Manitoba! I was able to do some #geocaching while out there, adding three squares to my QTH grid map.
Geocaching ist ein Spiel bei welchem die Teilnehmer mit GPS-Geräten Schätze suchen. Interessant ist, dass man über die Geocaching-Verstecke Ländergrenzen erkennen kann.
Lunch: prefab mushroom soup cooked with water from Troll Lake, kabanoss sausage grilled over my camp fire, Wasa brand crisp bread. Then 20 minutes' nap, two cups of sugary lakewater tea, and a geocache. Ready to shoulder my pack and move on!
I logged my 1100th geocache this morning. This may sound impressive until I add that it's taken me over 20 years. My friend Hans started 10 months before me, and he's logged 20,016 geocaches.
Yesterday I took my family to Tynehead Regional Park to do some #geocaching. We found 13, bringing my total over 2700.
Working toward a goal of my 3000th find being on an international trip next April.
Metro Vancouver - 269 (10%)
CN89 - 272 (10%)
British Columbia - 313 (12%)

A nice evening cycling around Rathgar with a touch of #Geocaching
