Sorely missing #LeonardCohen right now, who passed away on this day back in 2016. His lyrics & voice, power & honesty, grace & beauty stand so tall

Die Bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant
RWF
Wie is echt vrij? Een intens claustrofobisch drama over de complexiteit en manipulatieve aard van seksuele aantrekkingskracht.
"Solaris is one of the best movies I've ever seen."
A screengrab from Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1979 film, THE THIRD GENERATION. In this scene two characters discuss a Russian film. One can't remember the title and thinks it was weird. The other figures out it's Andrei Tarkovsky's 1972 film, SOLARIS.
Reading #Fassbinder Thousands of Mirrors while listening to #Harmonia Live 1974; can’t think of a more complementary pair, it’s even referenced early on in the book. It’s like Ian Penman wants me to read it this way. #films #books #kosmischemusik https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p5GhY_yOb7g
Think I need to rewatch some #Fassbinder films before I start the Ian Penman book… haven’t seen any in ages. Going to start with The Bitter Tears… which I remember liking. #movies #film
New reads. Been looking forward to getting the #IanPenman one ever since I heard him talking about writing it. Penman & #Fassbinder seem made for each other. Can’t remember who recommended #LucyCook ‘s #Bitch to me but it looks interesting. #books #bookstodon
I'm working my way through the Criterion Collection's commentary for #RainerWernerFassbinder's amazing 1979 #film, THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA BRAUN.
The commentary features two of the major figures of the New #German Cinema: #MichaelBallhaus, cinematographer on many #Fassbinder films; and #filmmaker #WimWenders, Fassbinder’s friend and colleague.
It's very good.
I've been watching THE BITTER TEARS OF PETRA VON KANT (#Fassbinder, 1972).
So good.
It's essentially, at least thus far, like a one-room play, all claustrophobic, stifling, and intense. Wonderfully acted and shot (brilliant staging and framing), and an intense character study.
Rainer Werner #Fassbinder wrote the entire #screenplay for "The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant" (1972) during a 12-hour flight from Berlin to Los Angeles. The #film was completely filmed within ten days. Both writing and filming does in incredibly short time frames. The film is considered a masterpiece of the New German Cinema.

The brilliant Michael Ballhaus was the cinematographer on the film. (His filmography is staggering: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Ballhaus#Filmography)
