"Personal Jesus" is a song by the English #electronicMusic band #DepecheMode. It was released as the lead single from their seventh studio album, #Violator (1990), in 1989. It reached No. 13 on the #UKSinglesChart and No. 28 on the US #Billboard Hot 100. The single was their first to enter the US top 40 since 1984's "#PeopleArePeople" and was their first gold-certified single in the US. In Germany, "Personal Jesus" is one of the band's longest-charting songs.

I think it's quite odd the hear "Siouxsie and the Banshees" coming from the in store speaker system at my wife's work. Then again, I've heard The Cure, and Depeche Mode from the same system. (but not today).
And maybe some other 80s and 90s alternative music - it's really odd this is the music I use to listen too in high school.

“I could only have sung that song after 40 years of doing this”

#DepecheMode’s Dave Gahan says Imposter isn’t a covers record—it’s a confession.

We talk about channeling Dylan (Not Dark Yet), Neil Young (A Man Needs a Maid), PJ Harvey, Cat Power, & more. The album was cut live with Soul Savers and sequenced like a film—ending not with a bang, but a broken-hearted Elvis whisper.

“It’s probably the closest I’ve ever come to showing who I really am,” Gahan says.
