Tonight: these days, the shorter the gap between busy-at-work and livemusic the better, so a-earlyshow'n we go!
Been interested in checking out Muscle Tough for a while. The Philly trio is kinda jambandy in a late-90's kind of way. Funky, interesting, & entertaining, if not maybe missing a certain something to push it into full-fledged enjoyment for me.
1st time at Groove in the village somehow, though I've walked by 1000x. Decent room, also maybe missing a certain something.
Tonight: one of my favorite things to hear from a jazz/jazz-adjacent band as they take the stage: we're not gonna stop playing. That was the case tonight at the Stone, controlled chaos from four musicians on an ever-wobbling highwire. Drummer Kate Gentile with Matt Mitchell on piano, Jeremy Viner on sax/clarinet and Kim Cass on bass. A non-stop whirlwind of sound, sometimes an unsustainable gust and others a gentle breeze.
Not for nothing, this was also #2025.100.
I'm both off my proverbial rocker and *very* good at what I do.
