"Four words that can save your marriage"
On 7.22.16 Phish played the Forum. Afterwards, I complained to my wife for an hour about Jukebox Trey. She listened (or pretended to) and then said, "I'm sorry. That sucks!" I felt heard!
I'm a problem-solver, but I've learned to STFU, listen, and say, "I'm sorry. That sucks!" when she has a problem. The ability to vent vent to your partner about life (or awful Phish setlist) and feel heard is the key to a healthy partnership.
I’ve also learned that no matter how relatable your personal story feels to the person “going through it”, it doesn’t help!
“I’m sorry, that sucks” is all anyone is asking for, unless they explicitly ask for more.
