Talon
Did you know that Microsoft just turns Copilot writing assist on for webpages in Microsoft Edge?
So like, if you type in edit boxes, it just... gets sent to Microsoft? Straight up?
And this is enabled by default?
So first, what the actual hell? Second, why is nobody talking about this? How the hell is right now the first time I find out about this?

GeePawHill
I do wish folks would stop using "alligator alcatraz".

It is a concentration camp.

It is not intended as a form of punishment or deterrence for criminals. It is intended as a means of removing humans the government does not like from society.

It's not a joke, it's not a meme, it's not a t-shirt.

It's a concentration camp.

Kit-T :damnified:
Looks like the "Verify your fedi account" scam is gaining pace, & evolving to look more real.

Your server admin will not ask you to click a link to verify your account. Glyph
It’s kind of bizarre to be following the news about Grok today and seeing so many people writing in tones which at least suggest that Grok is some good-faith effort at building some technology which incidentally includes political bias, rather than what it quite obviously is, i.e. a fascist propaganda organ being clumsily built by stupid fascists who can incidentally afford to hire some extremely skilled but amoral technologists.

Indivisible ❌👑
Project 2025 implementation alert: Trump has appointed an anti-abortion extremist to the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, which plays a crucial role in deciding how agencies interpret and enforce federal laws. Let’s explain why this is so dangerous. 🧵

Clive Thompson
Speaking of Wired's excellent coverage:

They just reported on a Department of Homeland Security memo that went out to local police forces ...

... urging them to consider even the most innocuous and bog-standard protest activity as dangerous ...

... like skateboarding, or walkigng around "on foot"

no joke

The story: https://www.wired.com/story/dhs-tells-police-that-common-protest-activities-are-violent-tactics/

Unpaywalled: https://archive.is/4Dgw5

An excerpt:

(((Cindy Weinstein)))
I think a lot about Emerson's quote, "the corruption of man is followed by the corruption of language" (Nature).

With this in mind, I ask that people not use "Alligator Alcatraz" to identify the concentration camp in Florida. Do not use the language of the fascists. It masks (like the ICE agents who wear them) the reality of what is happening. Don't let them do that.

#ConcentrationCamps
#Fascism

JA Westenberg
People are shocked to discover they need to fact-check ChatGPT and I'm having the uncomfortable realization that they never fact-checked their uncle's Facebook posts, their friend's medical advice, or literally anything Google's top result told them, and suddenly the last decade makes sense...

Trivial Einstein
Oh honey, they're not going to keep those "illegals" they're "concentrating" sitting around doing nothing. They're going to sell their labor (read: them) to private contractors who will soon have those "concentrated" (read: enslaved) people doing exactly the same thing they were doing before they were concentrated, only without paying them, with no oversight, and with no choice in the matter.

#subtoot

No, but seriously, that's the endgame here. Arbeit macht frei. There will probably be extermination camps too, for the unprofitable, but the Nazis worked a lot of people to death and if you don't think that's in the playbook for our current iteration, I have a bridge I can let you have at cost.

And the thing is, folks, they're already doing it. And I know it pains you to have to realize this, but it's perfectly legal. Anything you allow them to do to prisoners, they'll eventually get around to doing to you. Slavery is still legal. The Thirteenth Amendment says, and I quote:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, *except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted,* shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

(emphasis mine)

Why do you think minorities, particularly Black men, are disproportionately represented in the prison population? Why do you think "For-Profit Prisons" (read: plantations) are a thing? Why does the United States have a prison population which dwarfs other countries?

So no, your vegetables are still going to get picked. There might be some initial disruption as the system kicks into gear, but you'll have to shoulder the burden for that just like you've shouldered the burden for other "supply-line disruption" (read: corporate profit margin expansion) in the past. Hell, given this country's treatment of its indentured worker population (read: undocumented laborers) in the past, for some of them I doubt the situation will change all that much, at least at first.

At first.

By all means, get up in arms about this. This is a big step on the road to Auschwitz-Birkenau. We're basically already at Auschwitz, we just haven't quite gotten to the extermination camp part yet. We will though. Useless mouths can't be allowed.

Not to mention that our modern-day fash are gloves-off. They don't give a flying fuck whether Johnny Poor gets his vegetables, particularly since most Johnny Poors have thrown in their lot with fascism because of bigotry. If you're expecting a come-to-Jesus moment for the poor white bigots of this country when prices get higher, I regret to inform you that past history doesn't give you much ground to stand on in that regard. Johnny Poor has cheerfully voted against his own self-interest in order to fuck brown people for as long as there's been a goddamn country. Johnny Poor is going to march willingly to the camps just as long as he can see a Black queer woman ahead of him in line at the gas chamber.

Sorry.

Curiously Looped
What if we just gave all the money to rich people and let everyone else die? Let’s give it some time before we judge.

Erik Uden 🍑
Oliver North being invited to Fox News as a “military analyst” talking about how Iran shouldn't have missiles and is a threat to peace in the middle east, as if it wasn't him who sold missiles to Iran in order to create untraceable funds through which to support the Contras in Nicaragua when congress cut funding (which was high treason).

You're a threat to peace everywhere.

AnarchoNinaWrites
*shrugs* I mean from my perspective the math is not even difficult:

AIPAC is a right wing/reactionary/Republican organization. The Democratic Party is being lead by folks who owe their political survival to AIPAC money. Given these realities, I think it's entirely fair to say the Democratic Party has surrendered some degree of autonomy to the GOP and well I'm not really sure why anyone is surprised that a party directly influenced BY Republicans, is not opposing Republican fascism well.

Paul Cantrell
The billions and billions of dollars this bill pumps into ICE far exceed any conceivable legitimate need the agency could have, even if you agree with its mission.

This bill takes the same masked, anonymous gunmen who have been kidnapping people off the streets and gives them a budget the size of a military.

This is not about honoring the law. This is not even about immigrants.

This is about creating a police state.

I see no other way to read these numbers.
https://mastodon.world/@MJmusicinears/114764606160963355
