What Nintendo Games Do When You Delete Save Files
I know, lots of posts on this blog end up being about Nintendo in one way or other, but their corporate stance of toymakers, regardless of its truth, means they often do interesting things, and one category of those things is having special animations when you del

And I'm done with #WarioLand. I love how short some of these old GB games are. 🙂
I found all the treasures and beat the final boss with about 20,000 coins, which together with the payout from the treasures maxed out the coins to 99,999 and gave me the perfect ending where Wario gets a moon. 😁
However, I think this is the last time I'll play this game. It's not bad, but it's really easy and the secrets are super obvious. Later Wario Land games did that better. 🙂

Started playing #WarioLand on GB after @ishambard mentioned it. I've just made it past Mt. Teapot, but apparently I missed two treasures already. I'm a bit confused, because the rest of the keys and treasure rooms have been very obvious so far. 🤔
I'll look around a bit tomorrow, but if all else fails I will look up which level they're in. I've already done this once as a kid, so I don't feel like I'm missing out. 😅

For this #JukeboxFriday we’ve got the #WarioLand Shake It soundtrack. This one is interesting to me because it’s literally as stereotypical as you can get, but still manages to sound catchy and fun regardless.

The Bad Manor song just screams ‘haunted mansion’:

The Slipshod Slopes one just screams ‘Christmas’:

And this one is just catchy:

Oh I missed #vgmwednesday? Well, here’s a late entry from #WarioLand 4:

It’s a weird one, since the song was so obscure and hard to find (it plays during the ending medley if you get the worst possible ending and possibly only on super hard mode to boot) that fans thought it was unused content for about a decade…

So apparently #WarioLand Shake It was released in Europe on this day in 2008.

Named Wario Land: The Shake Dimension here, it seemed like the beginning of a glorious new era for the Wario series, with amazing graphics and some really fun levels.

But alas, the Wario platformers remained dormant ever since. Will they ever return, now it’s been 16 years of silence?

For today’s #ThrowbackThursday, here’s #WarioLand 3, which was released on this day back in 2000.

It was a very strange game to say the least. You couldn’t take damage or die, were transformed via various obstacles and could use said abilities to solve puzzles, and basic platforming abilities were unlocked Metroidvania style.

One of the biggest and most ambitious Game Boy titles for sure!

For todays #vgmwednesday, we have one of the weirdest unused content stories in history:

Plumber’s Cave from #WarioLand Shake It.

According to old sites and versions of the TCRF article, this was originally meant for a level in the first world of the game:

Problem is, no one else can track down the source, and the game’s composer hasn’t heard of it. So… is this an ancient wiki hoax that passed under the radar for years? Or real?

For this #ThrowbackThursday, we’ve got #WarioLand 3, which was released in Japan exactly 24 years ago.

This was a surprisingly big, complex game for Game Boy Colour. You had dozens of levels that affected each other Metroidvania style, and a design setup where Wario couldn’t actually take damage or die, meaning obstacles transformed you or knocked you back.

A great game all round, and the highlight of an underrated series too.
