Today marks the first day my infrastructure shows all green since I started the original migration to k3s earlier this year

It has been a journey, and some other things are not green, but as far as things are going, data is safe, and uptime is reliable 👌

A client sends me an email:
"Do you remember that internal backup server you set up a few years ago? Could you log in and check if everything’s okay? I’m not seeing any errors, but I’m not sure if it’s actually working properly".

I have a vague memory of it - I’m guessing “a few years ago” is quite a high number.
They send me the credentials and I log in:

08:46:41 up 2957 days, 18:01, 1 user, load average: 7.09, 2.34, 1.50

And, surprisingly, no errors.
Everything is working correctly, backups are present, and the disks show no issues whatsoever.
Debian.
Boot date: 14/04/2017.

Impressive.

Does anyone have any knowledge about what countries and counties’ domain registrars are most likely to _not_ follow a domain takedown or seizure order coming from Trump’s administration in the coming years as pure censorship?

I have heard rumor the Netherlands doesn’t brook government censorship for other governments, but lack confirmation.

Maybe digital persistence has already crossed your mind too.

I've made an interesting #observation re: #ChatGPT / #OpenAI...

Whilst they got sued by someone and forced to publish their #scraping #bots' #IP addresses, they actively prevent people from using and updating said #blocklist automatically by querying it.

I'm pretty shure that this violates their original settlement and that even if I query it hourly instead of once a day that this doesn't impact OpenAI's #uptime or #availability or #traffic at all since as of writing this file merely contains three lines:

52.230.152.0/24
52.233.106.0/24
20.171.206.0/24

And the downloaded file is 48 Bytes (!!!) small...

  • Meaning me using their website as a ping target is causing way more traffic to them than anything else.

IDK what you guys made off this...

  • Personally I'm getting pissed off with wannabe-"#AI" that I'm turning more #hostile against it by the day to the point that I'm considering to point all that traffic towards #Hetzner's 10GB test file just to give both parties a middle finger...

#JustSaying...

For those unaware...

I whipped up a monitor page via UptimeRobot showing the status of the top 50 Mastodon instances as listed on instances.social.

mastodonstatus.com/

This shows the uptime status of the top 50 instances (as listed in instances.social).

Some sites appear to be blocking uptimerobot, I'll see if I can fix that, but for now, feel free to use that for a quick glance at how the biggest servers in the fediverse are operating.
