Douglas<p>Huh that's cool. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/UnifiProtect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UnifiProtect</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unifi</span></a> from <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ubiquiti</span></a> now supports 3rd party IP cams (at least for core features). That product had been a walled garden for many years.</p><p>It's probably not the right fit for my use case (more than a dozen Amcrest IP cams that I do local things with, have a video display of the live feeds, and push periodic snapshots to a website) but it's cool that this is a thing now.</p>
JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>My experience with <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> has been overwhelmingly positive. I'm a fan, and <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/UniFiProtect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UniFiProtect</span></a> is a real highlight. I do have a new small complaint though, caused a minor panic this morning... </p><p>Your state in the playback tab persists, which I imagine is a good thing. But it's bad when you forget you were watching replay footage last time you were at your desk. I had a playback of a camera from a few days earlier, roughly same time of day. My lawnmower which was accidentally left out was gone 🤯 Might be some <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> opportunity here to make it super obvious it's not live footage...</p>
JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>Well, damn. The AiKey price went up 15%. How about those tariffs? </p><p><a href="https://store.ui.com/us/en/products/ai-key" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">store.ui.com/us/en/products/ai</span><span class="invisible">-key</span></a></p><p><a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/UniFiProtect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UniFiProtect</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/tarrifs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tarrifs</span></a></p>
JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>Every now and then our local birds manage to convince <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> that there’s a CO alarm going off near our shed. </p><p>It doesn’t happen enough to be a bother. Rare enough that it makes me smile. Maybe once per quarter? Anyway, think it’s funny, and worth sharing. </p><p><a href="https://vmst.io/tags/falsepositive" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>falsepositive</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/Unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/UnifiProtect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UnifiProtect</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/backyardbirds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>backyardbirds</span></a></p>
JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>I got my remote security rig assembled and configured. Kill-a-watt confirms 25-30 watts. I ran it for a day to check kWh measurement against real time and it checked out. </p><p>So yesterday I fully charged the EcoFlow, plugged the "rig" into that, and pulled the AC plug. The readout suggested a 22 hour runtime. That's less than the 33 I calculated, but there's overhead and waste associated with DC to AC to DC, plus heat and cooling fans.</p><p>Anyway it ran for 20.5 hours before I plugged it back in. Still had 13% battery and ~3 hours runtime. Very positive test, I'm pleased w/ the results. </p><p><a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifiprotect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unifiprotect</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ecoflow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ecoflow</span></a></p>
JL Johnson :veri_mast:<p>I’m not sure if anyone cares, but my remote “security rig” is very cool. It consists of a CloudKey+ w/ SSD, a Flex Switch + utility powerbox, Verizon home 5G router, and two G5 turret ultras. All in draw is 25-30 watts. If powered by my 1kW EcoFlow Delta, that’s 33 hours, with zero solar input. I’m happy with how it turned out. <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unifi</span></a> <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/unifiprotect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>unifiprotect</span></a></p>
