My camera shoots fascistsYesterday I found an alligator lizard covered in ticks. Blech! I got a tweezers and picked them off and let it go, but then I looked it up and learned the craziest thing:Something in alligator lizards' and spiny lizards' blood makes the ticks gut inhospitable to the spirochete that causes Lyme disease. That means a Lyme-infected tick gets sterilized of Lyme organisms by feeding a lizard blood!HFS that's so cool! I'm going to read a bunch of papers on it and write a blog post. Forest Fern FriendFound my first tick ever on my dog tonight, and I am mortified! Egad. I was able to fully remove the tick as evident in its crawling when I set it down. Egad x2. I treated the bite with rubbing alcohol and then packed it with antibiotic ointment. I image searched it and have determined it's a dog tick.
