If #IT was developed and maintained that way, we'd not have #Linux or even #Windows, most likely not even #CPM & #UNIX because "everyone uses punchcards and tubes, so stop complaining!"...

#NetworkEffects are #toxic when it comes to #SaaS and #proprietary shite, regardless if the bad guys are #discord, #Autodesk, #Adobe, #Apple or #Microsoft for that matter. (Don't even get me started on #SAP & #Oracle!)…

I just don't vibe with that appeal and would rather #SelfHost than compromise. If that makes me an outlyer then I'm happy to pay that price!

Others like @torproject@mastodon.social have their own @gitlab@mastodon.social / #GitLab servers #SelfHosted. - If you want a #Chat then consider #LiberaChat if you don't demand #privacy. Otherwise @delta@chaos.social / #deltaChat and/or #XMPP via @monocles@monocles.social & @gajim@fosstodon.org may be an option. - If you do want some #LoginWalling for some reason, consider @zulip@fosstodon.org / #ZulipChat as it has a nice #threading model that can handle both asynchronous communication and high traffic without becoming unfindable or unarchiveable. Modern #TechStack|s are convenient but they also make #developers lazy and result in the #enfattening of #Software and #Games.

Like we had entire Music Videos on the spare space of a #NeoGeoCD which meant this needed to be streamed, and mind you this is redbook CD Audio, not fancy ATRAC3 or Opus...

Nowadays we have shitty #WebApps that eat up 100+MB just for a #WebView and which are instantly useless once they don't have a high-speed, low latency internet connection!

People like #GraceHopper and #MargaretHamilton propably wouldn't even be mad, but just disappointed, knowing how a modern #IDE eats more computing power than the entire human race had at their career peaks...

And don't even get me started on all the #WastefulComputing aka. "#AI" #bs and #Shitcoin - #Scams!

@sylv_a personally, I'd recommend #XMPP+#OMEMO (and #PGP/MIME - encrypted #eMail) for real #E2EE with #SelfCustody of Keys as well as actual #decentralization.

All #SingleVendor and/or #SingleProvider solutions are inherently insecure, if not due to #TechStack (i.e. using a #CDN like #ClownFlare for app assets with no valid reason), #PII (demaning a #PhoneNumber which oftentimes cannot be obtained anonymously for no valod reason!) or lack of #DataProtection #Laws (i.e. #CloudAct is inherently incompatible with #GDPR & #BDSG), it's due to the inherent risks of #centralization.

Cuz I noone's gonna risk jailtime for (non-paying!) users - it at all…

In fact I'd call U.S. MIL/INTEL as "criminally incompetent" if they didn't manage to plant multiple people inside @signalapp / #Signal or any other single-vendor / single-provider messenger.

Cuz if Signal wasn't #NOBUS, they would've been shutdown/taken down/criminalized/hacked like #EncroChat and #SkyECC.

Personally, solutions like Signal & #Threema have a stench like #CryptoAG / #MINERVA / #Rubikon and #ANØM / #OperationIronside / #OperationTrøjanShield.

By contrast: #OpenStandards like XMPP+OMEMO & PGP/MIME are independently verifyable and not dependent on on a single individual/organization for maintenance/survival/implementation/development.

Also not depending on #GAFAMs and/or #VCmoneyBurningParties is way more sustainable long-term...

Personally I'd still recommend @monocles / #monocles with #monoclesChat & #gajim...

@Ariri unless you want custom-engineer your own #Markdown -> #LaTeX -> #Ghostscript pipeline like @fuchsiii did, consider #MkDocs as an easy solution to turn Markdown files into sleek #documentation with minimal configuration needed.

I've set it up multiple times and by just changing the docs_dir to like source and the site_dir to docs you can use #GithubPages for #hosting said #documentation...

That should provide you with an easy way to present stuff in an intuitive way...

Also proper #documentation is nice and Markdown is very easy to write and edit with Editors like #Codium a direct & instant preview.

I myself can't he assed writing #HTML5 / #CSS3 / #JS6 or wahtever #cursed #WebApp #TechStack is trendy tthese days so I use #MkDocs all the time...

There are no legitimate reasons to use #ClownFlare and other enablers and supporters of #StochasticTerrorism, espechally when there are better alternatives on the market!

Please reconsider your #TechStack AND the opening, cuz 40k p.a. won't get you a legal consultant except #remote or part-timer...
