bgrier 🇨🇦 🍁<p>Unexpected Project - replace batteries on printer toner cartridges?</p><p>Looks like Brother has gone over to the dark side and started blocking 3rd party cartridges. Sometime in the past, my B&amp;W laser printer (MFC-L2710DW) did an automated update. Yesterday I powered down and moved the printer. Powering up generated the No Toner message. Internet sleuthing revealed that 1) Brother pushed the blocking update, 2) it's checked on a powerdown/up cycle, and 3) 3rd party cartridges have batteries (who knew?).</p><p>Current plan: swap batteries for new ones (LR 521 - arriving tomorrow). If that doesn't work, another fix is to buy a new cartridge, remove the tiny 'authentic' PCB from it, and insert that into the old ones.
