Courtney Rosenthal<p>Yesterday, I had a programming jig 3D printed for this Sonoff S31 device. Looking good!</p><p>The contact pins should be arriving this weekend. Assuming the assembly goes ok, the next question is ESPHome or Tasmota? (I'm leaning towards the first.)</p><p><a href="https://pdx.social/tags/sonoff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sonoff</span></a> <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/espHome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>espHome</span></a> <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/tasmota" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tasmota</span></a> <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/homeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homeAssistant</span></a></p>
Courtney Rosenthal<p>The Sonoff S31 with native firmware has been a terrible disappointment. It still requires the app to pair, pairing is insanely hard, and then when done, it appears that Home Assistant (using a HACS integration) doesn't see it. (I'm guessing the issue is getting mDNS to traverse my VLANs.)</p><p>I think I'm going to need to flash a firmware to use this. So onto the tail of the project queue it goes.</p><p><a href="https://pdx.social/tags/homeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homeAssistant</span></a> <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/sonoff" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sonoff</span></a> <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/espHome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>espHome</span></a> <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/tasmota" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tasmota</span></a></p>

Mᴀʀᴋ VᴀɴᴅᴇWᴇᴛᴛᴇʀɪɴɢ<p>When I flash firmware onto new <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/tasmota" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tasmota</span></a> devices, I often solder temporary headers on, and then remove them. I did this Sonoff S31 device, and it worked fine, but when desoldering I was clumsy and one of the pads lifted off. It dawns on me that maybe I should explore making a Pogo Pin clip to go on the edge, which would make this more fast and reliable. Should I just put 6 pins in the edge of some perfboard and make it look like a small c clamp (held with rubber band?) or.. suggestions?</p>
