ESA cuts the ribbon on 34,000-core Space HPC centre tailored for space workloads.

The aptly named "SpaceHPC" facility is billed as being "demonstrator infrastructure" designed to help Europe's space industry "mitigate risks associated with data processing, modelling, and simulations."

Located in the Italian town of Frascati, 20km outside Rome, SpaceHPC houses a machine with 5 petaflops of raw performance potential.

JUPITER: New supercomputer module for European AI factory

The EuroHPC JU (European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking) plans to put six new AI factories into operation next year; one of them at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

The ExaFlops supercomputer JUPITER is getting a third computing module for this purpose.

'AI-startup Juvoly plaatst supercomputers'

Happy to announce that the D-Wave #annealing #quantum computer remains at JSC after its purchase by Forschungszentrum Jülich. We’ve successfully hosted and used the D-Wave system for three years now. The Jülich Unified Infrastructure for Quantum computing (JUNIQ) at JSC gains complete access to all aspects of the system, allowing us to integrate it in new ways for new purposes, e.g., connecting it to the #exascale #supercomputer #JUPITER soon. #Aurora #supercomputer is now fully operational, available to researchers
Scientists use Aurora to drive breakthroughs in cancer, materials discovery, energy technologies and many other fields.
Aurora is one of first #exascale supercomputers, along with Frontier at #DOE’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory and El Capitan at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Exascale refers to systems performing at least an #exaflop — a quintillion (a billion billion) calculations/s.

“Plans to boost the AI industry, beginning with a new growth zone in Oxfordshire…”

Yeah, so definitely no new supercomputer at Edinburgh Uni, then…

“The government’s ambitions for AI-driven public sector reform raise another set of questions—although the risk of harms being ignored in favour of a boosterish focus on benefits is the same.”

Yep.

Musk clearly done with #Tesla at this point
(may be a good thing?)

"$6 billion in a single venture round is a ridiculously large sum. But this year #OpenAI CEO #SamAltman has been talking up efforts to raise trillions of dollars to build the chip-making infrastructure he thinks will be needed to support advanced AI.

The Information recently reported that #xAI plans to build a massive new #Supercomputer — the “#Gigafactory of compute" — possibly in partnership with #Oracle.

Such a project could easily burn through this investment round before ever coming online”
