Flipboard Tech Desk<p>Meta accounts for 10% of all fixed and 22% of all mobile traffic and that stands to grow with its increased investment in AI. <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://flipboard.com/@Techcrunch" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Techcrunch</span></a></span> reports that this has led to the company planning its own subsea cable extending round the world — a 40,000km project that could cost more than $10 billion. It could be years before it becomes fully operational thanks to the limited number of companies that can build the infrastructure. “There’s a real tight supply on cable ships,” said Ranulf Scarborough, a submarine cable industry analyst. “They’re expensive at the minute and booked out several years ahead. Finding the available resources to do it soon is a challenge.”</p><p><a href="https://flip.it/to0QdJ" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">flip.it/to0QdJ</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tech</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Technology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Technology</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Meta" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Meta</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/SubseaCable" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SubseaCable</span></a></p>
