Jonathan Kamens 86 47<p>I just had to use an online identity verification site on my phone, "HooYu", while opening an account online, and the site told me to remove my glasses before it could take a live selfie, then while taking the selfie it displayed instructions on my screen that I was supposed to read while holding the phone a very specific fixed distance away from my very short-sighted eyes.<br>Do these people THINK before designing these apps?<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/smdh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smdh</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens 86 47<p>Today <a href="https://federate.social/tags/USAA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USAA</span></a> notified me that they finally opened the credit card dispute I had requested, after I requested it three times, the third time in a letter to the CEO.<br>Unfortunately, they got it wrong, again. My letter clearly said I only wanted to dispute part of the charge, but they opened a dispute for the whole charge.<br>I have just sent them a fourth letter pointed out the error and asking them (again) to handle this properly.<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/smdh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smdh</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/customerService" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>customerService</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/fail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fail</span></a></p>
Jonathan Kamens 86 47<p>I was sufficiently amused by this <a href="https://federate.social/tags/packagingWaste" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>packagingWaste</span></a> that it feels worth sharing on the off chance it might amuse someone else (in a <a href="https://federate.social/tags/smdh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smdh</span></a> sort of way). Look at the size of the item <a href="https://federate.social/tags/Garmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Garmin</span></a> shippped vs. the size of the box they put it in. There's nothing fragile here; they could have put it in a padded envelope. (bonus cat in the last photo!)<br>The shipping box is 8"x6"x5". The shipped item, 7"x2.5"x1", took up less than 8% of the volume of the shipping box.</p>

Jonathan Kamens 86 47<p>My uncle uses the same, old password everywhere. It's a weak password. It's in multiple breaches linked to his address. His accounts with that password have been broken into many times. I've warned him repeatedly about all this.<br>A while back I changed his email password to something else, gave it to him, and set up his Outlook with the new password so he wouldn't have to remember it.<br>Earlier this week he reset it back to his old password.<br>His account was broken into 2 days later.<br><a href="https://federate.social/tags/smdh" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smdh</span></a> <a href="https://federate.social/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a></p>
