Bungle ✡️ באנגל
In Parsha Shemini, Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu decide to play amateur arsonists by dicking around with fire for no good reason. In doing so, they completely disregard the newly established priestly hierarchy and directly flout the painstakingly-described standard procedure of sacrifices.

They get struck down for this. Boom, death by fire. Nobody is even allowed to mourn them.

Immediately following this, Moses lays out the priestly plan for Aaron's other sons, Eleazar and Ithamar. They proceed to cock things up by not eating their sacrifice in the sacred area as instructed. Aaron steps in, all is forgiven.

Why so different? I say El & It did wrong whilst trying to follow procedure, Nadab and Abihu just went rogue.

I imagine Eleazar and Ithamar as bumbling klutzes, promoted out of their brothers' malfeasance and desperately doing their best not to mess up.

Judaism is in the results business, sure, but how you get there matters.

#Torah #Shemini #Mazeldon #Judaism
