clew<p>"Hamilton also pointed out a significant ancillary role that the Big 4 play in the indie sewing pattern ecosystem. “They also own the last pattern tissue printers in the country, and that is significant to all the other pattern companies that rely upon it.”"</p><p>Whoa -- *two* people who run independent pattern companies mention this as a possible disaster for them, because the physical machinery had been centralized. That's complicated. </p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://timeloop.cafe/@wohali" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>wohali</span></a></span><br><a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <br><a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/SewingPatterns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SewingPatterns</span></a> <br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>sewing</span></a></span></p>

Julia<p>Hello lovely sewing folks - Has anyone ever made a vintage bathing suit? I'm looking for 1930s-40s and 1950s styles. The Dress Developer<p>Shirtwaist dresses are a classic, and I cannot wait for it beeing warm enough to wear this again!</p><p>Yes, it is covered in little elephants. :D It is made from one of my pattern kits, so it is highly customizable! BunRab Voted for Harris<p>JoAnn's closing virtually all stores by April will be a problem for sewists. The other 2 big craft chains don't stock much fabric; local quilt shops generally don't stock knits, rayon, denim, gauze and other clothes-making staples. And as far as I know, JoAnn's is THE major outlet for the big pattern companies - I suspect this will be close to a death blow for Simplicity/McCalls/Butterick/Vogue. So now would be a good time for <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/sewists" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewists</span></a> to stock up on copies of your staple <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/SewingPatterns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SewingPatterns</span></a>.</p>
Hollie<p>Hey <a href="https://social.coop/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> folks, Helen's Closet is shifting their website from WordPress to Shopify, and unfortunately this means that all your saved purchased patterns will be purged from your account, so GO DOWNLOAD. </p><p>She writes in her newsletter that you can probably get download access back later on a per-case basis, but it'd be a drag. Might as well go download them all now while you're already avoiding the news and everything else. 🤪</p><p><a href="https://social.coop/tags/HelensCloset" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HelensCloset</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/SewingPatterns" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SewingPatterns</span></a></p>
