@servo wow such a shitstorm, so much agressivity, insults, threatening when they ask openly and transparently the opinion of the community. You could just say "no" with reasoning in a respectful way. Imagine the person taking that in the face. That's really sad.

Are we, even here, in a world of violence where sane debate is not possible anymore?

@servo I guess, as an experiment, I will cancel my donations and stop recommending #servo do anyone as a possible alternative. After a year, I might revisit that decision, but let's be honest, unless the current TSC resigns, thing will likely not change either way.

Until #LadyBird becomes available, a great alternative is #ZenBrowser; unfortunately, it is not yet available for smartphones. There is also #LibreWolf. Currently, the existing alternatives seem still immature, and the trade-off between usability and #privacy is challenging. Additionally, there is #Servo, an engine developed by the #Linux Foundation. However, many have moved to #Brave. For now, I will try Zen, seem nice, waiting for other alternatives to mature. #Firefox is going down a dead end

The Blink engine is being used in a lot of places. If I'm not mistaken this is also the engine used in #Electron.

WebKit in itself can be found everywhere in the open source world, but it is also maintained by #Apple.

But what about #Servo? The former Mozilla project turned #LinuxFoundation project based on #rust. There is no Servo web browser in the wild so far, that I know of.

But in essence, thems the only 3:
1. Blink
2. WebKit
3. Servo
4. Gecko (but... #Mozilla)

Continued thread

@mozillaofficial there was real innovation happening at mozilla like #rustlang and #servo, but instead of building on that, you let go of those projects.

Where is the next Firefox Quantum that is competitive with google chrome?

Stop doing pseudo-features like #colorways, and return to bringing innovation to the table and focus on the fight for a free internet.

Hachyderm.ioTheDragon 🔥 (@TheDragon@hachyderm.io)@foosel@chaos.social the one thing that the demise of Firefox has persuaded me of... (yes I'm a bit late getting to this realization, but I kept hoping for change... Positive change!) Alternatives that are not Chrome based, and are not Firefox based are desperately needed. The only OSS alternatives (not derivatives) I've seen discussed are Servo and Ladybird.... They're certainly not currently in a position to switch to today.... But it does make me think I'd like donate towards one of these projects. That does cause a dilemma for me... Which do I support financially? Does anyone know / have any links that might aid in assessing their - - pros/cons on their browsers from a technical perspective? - how far away from GA they might be? - any "gotchas" re their devs/community? I write this, having seen a *HUGE* number of disappointed people at the poor set of choices that remain at their disposal for many different reasons. Could this *HUGE* collective feeling be transformed into a pledge to support/aid their development - whether that's code contribution, or testing, or docs or even making a small recurring donation to the project? To try and make an impact on the future availability of "great* choices when it comes web browsers, rather than continually having to pick the least bad option? #Firefox #Mozilla #Ladybird #Servo #OSS #FOSS #browser #web

@mttaggart the clarification is in a blog post, that may not be legally binding. so in my eyes any clarification outside of the ToS is worthless.

If #Mozilla wants to offer AI services or collect and use their users data, this should be a separate opt-in ToS in my opinion, not the terms of the base application.

But TBH #Mozilla is doing too much dumb management decisions these days, so I'm considering to stop recommending it. (colorways, firing #rust and #servo teams, ads for temu and so on)

this is it. Move away from vanilla Firefox NOW!

use alternatives like Librewolf, @zenbrowser, Waterfox or any other Firefox-based browser like that.
Additionally go and support @servo, they are building a new web browser engine from scratch.

fuck you @mozilla (dead account) for destroying the only good left in your company & foundation
