AI6YR Ben
Mounted two rails on the second shed, wrestled a 40 lb solar panel up there. Found some issues with my mounting plans. Will have to solve them another day. Will need to rewire inside a bit as I have to swap out the solar controller. (house panels vs. 12V panels... different open circuit voltage). Will also put up one more panel there.

Lessons today:
1. Definitely need UV rated wire, one of the old panels I had wired up with THHN wire, and the coating had almost entirely decayed.
2. Clamping the panel to the rails isn't sufficient at the angle I have this roof, but I re-used the old "tray" which was part of the prior solar install as a lip to hold up the panel. (will also be clamped to the rails)
3. Probably better to recruit some help to get heavy panels up on a shed -- or rig a pulley system. I managed to do so safely using brute force, but it's not easy, and you most certainly could drop a panel if things went south.

#projects #sol

AI6YR Ben
Okay, gave up on the solar supply houses 🙄 and just went and bought strut from a local hardware store for mounting my solar panels on the other shed. Went to Lowe's (to avoid the higher odds of ICE at Home Depot) and at a late hour (unlikely hour for a raid, no day laborers or contractors around). Now to un-mount the other old panels on that shed, mount the new rails, anchor the panels and rewire everything. (not this weekend, probably, ham radio Field Day, although I did not sign up to run anything...). #random #electronics #projects
