We used average electric prices supplied by Eurostat.
Conclusion: consumers all across #Europe can save money with #pluginpv!

balkonsolar
So what about batteries and #pluginpv?

More and more are comming to the market. And they can also provide an emergency power function and of course only feed in when you need electricity. However we calculated, the initial investment cost is higher and thus repaying takes longer.

There are basically 4 types of systems with batteries

- everything in one box
- inverter and battery connected by DC cable
- inverter and battery connected by AC cable
- Inverter and Battery in seperate Places both counted to the grid in the house through their own socket.

balkonsolar
Mounting #pluginpv can be a challenge. We try to have mounting systems for all kinds of situations and balcony types on our website. From the concrete balcony to flat roofs, fences or walls. There is a mounting for everyone.

balkonsolar
We are getting more and more questions, so lets summarise what #pluginpv is and how it works?

Any system has 4 components:

* Solarpannel(s) producing DC

* a Microinverter transforming DC into AC - The Solarpanel usually gives us something around 40 Volts Direct current (DC/ one-directional flow of electric charge). So we need an inverter to make that into Alternating current (AC that periodically reverses direction) in our case 50 times a second and transforms it int 230 V. The inverter has additional features for safety:
It shuts itself off within 0.2 seconds if it sees no electrical grid, so even if there is an exposed plug, there is no danger of an electrical shock or touching a live wire.
These inverters usually come with 1 MPPT (400 W) or 2 MPPT (800w). MPPT = Maximum power point tracker. That's the electronics that do the inverting.
Safety regulations include not exceeding a certain amount of feed in, usually 800 W.

* cable to connect Panel to inverter and inverter to socket

* Mounting

balkonsolar
Will new #IEC Norms kill Plug-in-Pv?

A new global standard for low-voltage generating sets is currently being discussed by the International Electrotechnical Commission, and somehow in this standard we find section 751.550.101.1, which states:
"A generating set shall not be connected to a final circuit."

The supplementary paragraph 751.550.101.2 is also cause for concern. It states:
"The connection of the generating set to the electrical installation shall be made by one of the following methods: […] a dedicated coupling system which is not compatible with any configurations belonging to national systems based on IEC 60884-1.

This wording directly targets the exclusion of Schuko-compatible plugs. Thus would not allow you to simply connect to the grid.

The IEC standards are not directly the standards that are in power, but national norming committees use these to draft their rules. So putting something into them that disallows feed in via a standard plug and socket, can make #pluginpv illegal in many places.

Any such attempt would grossly underminde the encouragement given to member states in the EU Electricity Market Directive 2024/1711 to allow or promote plug-in solar technology.
The comment period ends on June 16th, and not just any citizen is allowed to comment, but only the experts from the national committees.
If this becomes a reality, plug-in solar will be a thing of the past for the next few years.

More Info https://balkon.solar/news/2025/06/02/will-new-iec-norms-kill-plug-in-pv/
