The King's guards are the nine white pieces in the squares immediately adjacent to it. The attacking army is the 16 dark pieces placed around the sides. The four castle symbols on the outermost corner squares are the king's ways to escape, securing a victory for the King's team.Only the king can occupy the middle space, but the other pieces if either team may "jump" that space —the only time a jump is permitted. Similarly, only the king may ever occupy the corner spaces, at which moment the king's team wins.Pieces move like rooks in chess.Capturing an opponent's piece is done if the opponent's piece is trapped between two pieces (longitudinal or orthogonal) or between an opponent's piece and a corner (King's escape) square.NOTE: pieces that intentionally move into a "capture" space do not get captured. That is to say you cannot have pieces captured on your turn and they will not be passively captured on your opponent's subsequent turn.
