This Is My Glasgow<p>Love this old sign on the Art Deco style former Riddrie Cinema on Cumbernauld Road in Glasgow. It's a reminder of it heyday when its facade would have featured neon lights.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/riddrie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>riddrie</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/neon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ghostsign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ghostsign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/sign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The former Riddrie Cinema on Cumbernauld Road in the east end of Glasgow. Constructed in the Art Deco Moderne style, this beautiful and stylish building was designed by James McKissack. It's considered one of the best preserved 1930s suburban super-cinemas in Scotland.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/riddrie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>riddrie</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artdeco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artdeco</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/cinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The grand entrance to the former La Scala cinema on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. Originally a warehouse, it was converted into a cinema at the start of the 20th Century. Designed by Duff and McKissack, it originally seated 1,000 people. It closed in 1984, and was converted into a bookshop in the 1990s.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/cinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/sauchiehallstreet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sauchiehallstreet</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>When in opened, it seated over a thousand people, and showed its last film in 1961. This was the Oscar-winning biopic of Frantz List Song Without End, which starred Dirk Bogarde who went to the city's Allan Glen's School in his teenage years.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/cinemas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cinemas</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artdeco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artdeco</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ancientegypt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ancientegypt</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The Govanhill Picture House. This wonderful Egyptian-themed Art Deco cinema was designed by Eric Sutherland and opened in 1926. It's design was presumably inspired by the mania for all things accient Egyptian which swept the world after the rediscovery of Tutankhamun's tomb just a few years before in 1922. </p><p>Cont./</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/govanhill" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>govanhill</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/cinemas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cinemas</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artdeco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artdeco</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/ancientegypt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ancientegypt</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The former New Bedford Cinema on Eglinton Street in Glasgow. One of Glasgow's surprising number of Art Deco cinemas, it was designed by Lennox and McMath. When it opened in 1920, it could seat 2,300 people. It closed as a cinema in 1973.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/artdeco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artdeco</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The grand entrance to the former La Scala cinema on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. This building was originally a warehouse, but like a surprsingly large number of other buildings on the same street, it was converted into a cinema at the start of the 20th Century. It opened in 1912 and closed in 1984. It has been home to a Waterstones bookshop since the 1990s.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/oldcinema" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oldcinema</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/lascala" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lascala</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/sauchiehallstreet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sauchiehallstreet</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowarchitecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowarchitecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/waterstones" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>waterstones</span></a></p>
