Nushell<p>Hello world! This is a human-maintained account for Nushell. Thanks Hachyderm for hosting us.</p><p>One way to introduce Nushell is using three "pillars" that form the core of the project:<br>1. Shell<br>2. Programming Language<br>3. Structured Data</p><p>1/N <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/nushell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nushell</span></a></p>
VirtualComputer<p>Imagine a future where we are developing on a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/System76" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>System76</span></a> computer running <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/RedoxOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RedoxOS</span></a> with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/COSMICdesktop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>COSMICdesktop</span></a> and either a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/alacritty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>alacritty</span></a> or a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wezterm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wezterm</span></a> terminal running <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/nushell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nushell</span></a> with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/zellij" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zellij</span></a> as the multiplexer and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/helixeditor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>helixeditor</span></a> as the development environment.</p><p>Running <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rustlang" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rustlang</span></a> from top to bottom on your computer. I've also seen examples where <a href="https://mstdn.io/tags/curl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>curl</span></a> requests are working but requests via <a href="https://mstdn.io/tags/nushell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nushell</span></a> 'http get' are not.</p>
drbrain<p>A good introduction task to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/nushell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nushell</span></a> is a task where you would reach for curl and jq, but instead of needing to puzzle through the jq manual and stack overflow to manipulate the json you can use live help to know how to filter, map, and transform the data<br><a href="https://hachyderm.io/@Elendol/113057705148716961" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">hachyderm.io/@Elendol/11305770</span><span class="invisible">5148716961</span></a></p>
Max Desiatov 🇺🇦<p>Built-in support for structured data (lists and tables) in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Nushell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nushell</span></a> is great, but I feel strong typing and sane syntax sealed the deal for me. Now I feel confident writing 3+ lines of a shell script thanks to Nushell, and I'm more inclined to separate those out into custom commands/functions. With strong typing and LSP support I can get inlay hints with inferred types while editing scripts, not even mentioning errors highlighting in the interactive shell itself. Massive productivity boost</p>

Ike<p>Nerd sniped myself and stayed up way too late updating my <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/RaspberryPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RaspberryPi</span></a> 2 to the latest OS version, so I could get <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/nushell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nushell</span></a> running on it. </p><p>Also played around with the <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/jellyfin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>jellyfin</span></a> media server which was surprisingly easy to get started. </p><p>Still figuring out a safe/secure way to ssh into the pi from outside the home and safely expose the pi to the internet at large.</p><p>Doing a <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/ReverseProxy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReverseProxy</span></a> and putting a <a href="https://pkm.social/tags/VPN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>VPN</span></a> on the router are tasks that are not quite as straight forward.</p>
Charles Roper<p>Working with <a href="https://indieweb.social/tags/Nushell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nushell</span></a> is a real treat. It feels like a cross between SQL, Ruby, and Bash, with a sprinkling of Pandas. It's like a delicious programmatic jambalaya.</p><p>Here I am getting the ids of some of my sites on Cloudflare.</p><p>I'm using HTTPie to make the request, converting the json to a dataframe, getting the result table, selecting just the id and name columns, and finally selecting site names containing "roper". Result auto formatted into a table.</p><p>This makes me very happy.</p>
