"When human #HARs —segments of #humanDNA that evolved much faster than expected— were introduced into #chimpneurons, they also grew more projections, suggesting a direct link between HARs and neural #complexity. However, these same genetic changes may also contribute to #neurodevelopmentaldisorders like #autism, highlighting the delicate balance of human brain evolution."

My research group at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics in Oxford uses #SingleCell techniques and Genome Architecture Mapping to study #epigenetics #Chromatin and #GenomeFolding in rare #NeurodevelopmentalDisorders.

I (He/Him) love to be outside #Hiking or #Cycling and I’m a big fan of #FlightFree travel. Interested in #Equity issues in STEM, trying to read and educate myself to be a better ally.

Toot at me with your #Andor theories!

My lab at Washington University School of Medicine studies transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of brain development, using human stem cell and organoid and mouse models. We are interested in defining networks that regulate formation of particular neuronal cell types and learning how these are disrupted to cause neurodevelopmental disorders like autism.
