In my wiki/digital garden I have a collection of tutorials on webmentions including the basics — you can get up and running with only two lines of HTML! — using microformats to enrich your mentions; adding a webmention form; and parsing, displaying, and updating them with Eleventy, Netlify, and Bridgy.

#Netlify update again: Name.com customer support is saying they won't help me because my domain wasn't registered there, despite the Name.com reseller agreement saying "comply with ICANN and support your customers or else" and my email to support being "hey Netlify isn't complying with ICANN and supporting me".

#Netlify update: if you have a domain controlled by Netlify, turns out when you’re ready to leave, they will only let you transfer to an account at `Name.com, rather than the domain registrar of your choice. Doing so counts as a transfer under ICANN rules: no further transfer allowed for 60 days.

I am moving a website from GitHub Pages to #Netlify . The domain is register via #Namecheap, and when I was looking to the documentation, it isn't clear to me how to set up the DNS (I don't want to transfer the domain to Netlify).
Any tips or instruction pages that I can use will be very much appreciated!

@kellysims @Luke Hah. I'm working to spin up a site on Ghost and hadn't occurred to me that they don’t store as static files.
@nazhamid You use #eleventy right? That's all on static files, no? How are you enjoying it? And I think you mentioned you were hosting it on #netlify as well?

You can now build durable, multi-step Async Workloads on top of #Netlify Functions, which I am really excited about. You don’t have to do infra management for them, maintain the state, set up a queue, etc.

I've had a sudden spike in bandwidth on my #Netlify account (that powers Cybercultural.com), and it's not correlated with an increase in traffic. i.e. a 10x increase in bandwidth usage over past 2 days, which has triggered an extra fee at Netlify. I have emailed their support, but has anyone else seen bandwidth spikes unrelated to page views on Netlify? Could this be some kind of spam attack, or an AI bot bashing my site??

@Haste forcibly transfer-out your domain and/or complain at the TLDs owner / RIR / regulators?
Also why tf do they want any ID??
Or do you really have a domain at one of the few ccTLDs that demand an ID at the registrar like .yt ???

So I received an email from Netlify last weekend saying that I have a $104,500.00 bill overdue. At first I thought this is a joke or some scam email but after checking my dashboard it seems like I am truly owing them 104K dollars:
That's 190TB bandwidth in 4 days
So I was like 😅😅😅 and think okay maybe I got ddos attacked. Since Netlify charges 55$/100GB for the exceeding bandwidth, the peak day Feb 16 has 33385/55 * 100GB = 60.7TB bandwidth in a day. I mean, it's not impossible but why attack a simple static site like mine? This site has been on Netlify for 4 years and is always okay with the free tier. The monthly bandwidth never exceeded even 10GB, and has only ~200 daily visitors.
I contacted their billing support and they responded me that they looked into it and the bandwidth came from some user agents, meaning it is a ddos attack. Then they say such cases happen and they usually charge their customer 20% on this. And since my amount is too large, they offer to discount to 5%, which means I still need to pay 5 thousand dollars.
This feels more like a scam to me. Why do serverless platforms like Netlify and Vercel not have ddos protection, or at least a spend limit? They should have alerted me if the spending skyrocketed. I checked my inbox and spam folder and found nothing. The only email is "Extra usage package purchased for bandwidth". It is hard to recommend #Netlify to beginner website builders now, because the landing page is very corporate. But, it still serves me well for all my little ideas and projects.
