Rijksmuseum Roulette<p>Pair of marriage goblets with lids, anonymous, 1759<br>These goblets commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of Jan Jacob van Westrenen and Johanna Catharina Mamuchet van Houdringe. Rijksmuseum Roulette<p>Redingote or Great-Coat Dress, anonymous, c. 1786 - c. 1789<br>The origin of the redingote lies in long men’s coats with a cutaway front, the riding coat. It is a striking example of the influence men’s fashion exerted on women’s fashion. A redingote for ladies consisted of an overcoat or gown, and a loose skirt in a contrasting colour, which enhanced the coat-like effect. Olive green and pale pink were a popular combination at the end of the 18th century.</p><p>Gift of Jonkvrouw C.I. Rijksmuseum Roulette<p>Figures in a Courtyard behind a House, Pieter de Hooch, c. 1663 - c. 1665<br>In the shelter of the shade, a woman squeezes the juice of a lemon into her glass, while her companion attempts to draw her attention. Perhaps she wants to keep a cool head: in the 17th century it was believed that lemons could calm intense infatuation. Two<br>maidservants bustle about: one is serving drinks, while the other is scrubbing a kettle.</p><p>On loan from the City of Amsterdam (A. van der Hoop Bequest)<br>oil on canvas, h 60cm × w 45.7cm<br><a href="http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/collection/SK-C-150" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">rijksmuseum.nl/en/collection/S</span><span class="invisible">K-C-150</span></a><br><a href="https://c.im/tags/rijksmuseum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rijksmuseum</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/musea" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>musea</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/collection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>collection</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/art" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>art</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/mastodonart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastodonart</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/mastoart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoart</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/random" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>random</span></a></p>

Rijksmuseum Roulette<p>Still Life with Books, Hercules Segers, c. 1618 - c. 1622<br>While Segers’ stack of books looks unassuming enough, it is entirely original, and may even be the earliest still life in European graphic art.
