Heroic :monogame: :godot:<p>I made some good progress on the <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/monogame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>monogame</span></a> platformer I have been working on. I really need to finish this textbook before summer's end. I don't have a job right now and only taking one summer school class so I have no excuse. I'm gonna finish this textbook and find a way to develop a personal project. </p><p>That's my big goal for the summer. That and continue to work on the <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/godot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>godot</span></a> development too. I think pairing Godot and Monogame will bolster my game development skills in tandem.</p>

macabrett<p>I'm trying to make Cosmic Jam accessible in a few ways. One of those ways is allowing players to adjust colors for important objects in the environment that may be hard to spot when going full speed.</p><p>You'll be able to set these colors through RGB values with no real restrictions. Caroline Middlebrook<p>I have realised that to create games with <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/MonoGame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MonoGame</span></a> you really do have to "roll your own engine", or at least, use somebody else's. Do I want to be an engine developer? No, I don't, so what are my options? In this video I explain the crossroads that I feel I am at, and go through the options I'm currently considering to continue moving forwards with my <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> journey. <a href="https://youtu.be/UoNyTX-ZQKQ" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/UoNyTX-ZQKQ</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/learntocode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>learntocode</span></a></p>
Caroline Middlebrook<p>Lots more refactoring work in this <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/devlog" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>devlog</span></a>. I've separated out a Nightmare System, created a HUD class for the UI, reworked the JSON data so that I could create 3 distinct levels to the game, and finally allowed the player to win the game. <a href="https://youtu.be/AEYyfzUlEb8" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/AEYyfzUlEb8</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/indiedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>indiedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/solodev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>solodev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/monogame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>monogame</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/buildinpublic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>buildinpublic</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/girlswhocode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>girlswhocode</span></a></p>
Caroline Middlebrook<p>I've updated the executeable today. I've fixed a lot of bugs, added more sound effects, changed the UI and there are now 3 playable levels in the game. The end is in sight! You can download on Itch if you'd like to check it out: <a href="https://rheyan.itch.io/orbarella" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">rheyan.itch.io/orbarella</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/indiedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>indiedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/solodev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>solodev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/monogame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>monogame</span></a></p>
Caroline Middlebrook<p>Another <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/devlog" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>devlog</span></a> for my Calimoe <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/MonoGame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MonoGame</span></a> library project. There's been a lot of refactoring work going on to get my basic sprites and other objects working consistently. I've also added the ability to draw 2D primitives, some basic text effects and a game clock class. <a href="https://youtu.be/LaPlfHwduK0" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/LaPlfHwduK0</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/learntocode" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>learntocode</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/buildinpublic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>buildinpublic</span></a></p>
Caroline Middlebrook<p>I've only been learning <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> for a few weeks and I'm looking to connect with others on a similar path. If you're an <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/indiedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>indiedev</span></a> — especially a <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/solodev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>solodev</span></a> — say hi! Caroline Middlebrook<p>In this <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/devlog" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>devlog</span></a> I finally fixed that collision bug that I knew was lurking in there! I've added a game clock and added a simple night to day cycle and some sound effects which is making the game feel more alive. <a href="https://youtu.be/j4MDoskgjSc" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">youtu.be/j4MDoskgjSc</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> indiedev <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/monogame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>monogame</span></a></p>
aeva<p>I've been using <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/MonoGame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MonoGame</span></a> for prototyping, and I want to experiment with jumpflooding. MonoGame targeting OpenGL is limited would require implementing that as successive fullscreen draws and an alternating pair of framebuffers. MonoGame targets a really old version of OpenGL, so I'm not sure if this pattern would be problematic or not.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/FNA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FNA</span></a> might be another option, but it seems like FNA also requires using FXC to compile shaders, which doesn't give me much confidence.</p><p>(1/)</p>
aeva<p>I've made some progress on getting <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/MonoGame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MonoGame</span></a> running on the hell distro! The surprise exit-without-error was a segfault (thanks `strace`!), which apparently was because <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/NixOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NixOS</span></a> cleverly hid away udev, which is famously an optional component in all modern Linux distros. Now with that fixed, it simply cannot OpenGL:</p><p>"Unhandled exception. Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics.NoSuitableGraphicsDeviceException: Failed to create graphics device!"</p><p>(fails somewhere in MonoGame.OpenGL.GL.LoadExtensions)</p>
aeva<p>I'm still stumped on how to get <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/MonoGame" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MonoGame</span></a> working on <a href="https://mastodon.gamedev.place/tags/NixOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NixOS</span></a>, but thankfully I have another computer with a real operating system on it, so please enjoy this overwrought Hello World I made using MonoGame tonight:</p>
