@alienghic
> they really should put the warning at the top

At least Brave are a) transparent about the answer being algorithmically-generated, b) giving a warning about potential inaccuracies, c) giving links to the sources the algorithm is drawing from, and d) giving a normal list of search results underneath, so you can ignore the algorithmic answer. That's a huge improvement over what most companies deploying a Trained #MOLE are doing.

I find it amazing how unwilling people are to accept that current "#AI" tech (including the "LLM" tech that I call #MOLE Training) is not intelligent, by any meaningful definition of the word. The nonsense arguments they use to wriggle out of this conclusion are nothing if not creative.

Most common is the consensus reality wriggle; more people talk as if they think Trained MOLEs are intelligent, therefore they are. So if most people think perpetual energy is possible, then it is? Nope.

Bestial Human Mole
Hand drawn Ink art by William McAusland, writing by Colin Chapman

With their velvety fur, tiny eyes, squat builds, and overlarge shovel-like hands, bestial human moles are inoffensive, but this belies the fact that they are aggressive, constantly hungry omnivores who prefer a diet of meat.

"DeepSeek used a 'mixture of experts' model. Which means rather than training one large model, they trained tens of smaller ones, on more specific data, that then gets switched on and off as needed."

To the degree that #MOLE Training will be a useful technology in the long term, I think this is how it will be used. Models that are intensively trained on narrow areas to create niche expert systems. The AGI talk is pure sales hype.

Spotify for CreatorsDeepSeek - How a Chinese AI Startup Shook Silicon Valley by Patrick Boyle On FinanceOn Monday, over a trillion dollars was wiped off the US stock market due to the appearance of a Chinese artificial intelligence start-up DeepSeek. The release of a new reasoning model, known as R1, led investors to question US dominance in tech, their expectations around future AI capex while also raising the prospect that China might beat Silicon Valley at its own game. The new DeepSeek model can “reason” to solve complex problems and performs as well as the AI software from US tech giants like Google and OpenAI, but was apparently developed at a fraction of the price of those models. DeepSeek quickly overtook OpenAI’s ChatGPT as the most-downloaded free app on the US iOS App store. Random culinary.

Went away this past weekend, for a combo of business and (later) family fun.

Bumped into a restaurant that is chocolate themed. Huh.

Among the quirky, unexpected combos, a chicken mole gnocchi dish that surprised me. If you MUST combine pasta with a mole, I guess gnocchi would be a consideration. Noodles or other flat pasta types would not retain the sauce, or absorb it. Maybe tortellini or ravioli might do, but the filling would be trick. The gnocchi was both absorbent and neutral enough that it offered a foil for the intense flavors of the mole, which was NOT gringo-toned-down, at all.

Not gonna say that mole with pasta made my list of faves, but I was impressed by the execution.

Lighting was terrible (theme...) and the picture doesn't make justice to the presentation, since I had dug into the dish, already

> I think it's more that they promote lots of junk that shouldn't be included than that they demote some stuff

Possibly. But I'm assuming that your standard web search engine is just a Trained #MOLE minus the chat front-end. So it's possible that the limits they use to stop the MOLE putting on jodhpurs and goosestepping around, also affects other non-mainstream content due to the law of unintended consequences (or centrist biases that conflate radical left with far right).

Proof positive that common web #search engines are now shadowbanning from their results. Banning what? Authors Publishers?Whole topics? Not sure.

But I used a metasearch engines to search for this subdomain and keyword combo;

monocles.de/search?q=disinterm

The top results were links to fediverse servers with a copy of my posts linking to the SubStsck post about #MOLE Training I was looking for;

disintermedia.substack.com/p/i

Not a single link to the piece itself, nor to the original versions of my posts.
