Bích-Mây Nguyễn :verified:
"Symptoms can start much earlier — during perimenopause, the time leading up to menopause — and go well beyond hot flashes.

The many manifestations include insomnia, migraines, brain fog, loss of concentration, memory problems, mood swings, depression, anxiety, heart palpitations, hair loss and weight gain. ContraindiKate
Friends, I am one year into the menopause with Severe ME/CFS, Neuropathy, MCAS, and an as-yet-undiagnosed connective tissue disorder.

My mother tells me her menopause lasted ten years. I'm only 42 so I have a long way to go.

I'm not sure how to get through this.

I've just survived another night of seven straight hours of hot and cold flashes combined with the worst neuropathic pain a human can endure. My skin was a five-alarm fire. Seven hours of pain that rendered me a sweaty, non-human animal. Even now, at ten o'clock in the morning, after a few hours of light sleep I'm still electric, smaller bolts of lightning caressing my skin.

I'm not really looking for advice re medications, supplements or diet. I'm taking what can be taken, have consulted numerous specialists, and my diet is "beyond reproach" according to my nutritionist. I'm working on trying to increase my vitamin B but I keep having histamine reactions to the supplements.

My meditation practice is useful for normal everyday pain, but crumbles when I'm in so much pain that I can't take a deep breath, can't even think clearly enough to identify that I need to breathe. The subtle body is far too subtle for a beast in pain.

Every time I identify a food, medication, or pattern of behaviour and eliminate it, a new trigger pops up and causes a whole new round.

What I want to know is how to stay on the rollercoaster. How does one remain inside a body that is constantly at war with itself? How to endure this with grace? What brings comfort after a round of torture?

#MEcfs #neuropathy #ChronicIllness #LongCOVID #hEDS #ChronicPain #Menopause #fibromyalgia

CharlotteHukvari
- suicidal thoughts. How is it that there is no information anywhere unless you search for it yourself? Why are we not taught about this in school? Poor treatment of the menopause can cause Alzheimer’s as well as heart problems. Janet
Just popped in here to say I need a new body and could use some new/more/recycled hormones. Time to see the GP *again*. It’s late Feb and I have already reached the point where I need 3 or 4 alternative outfits for the day in the too hot/too cold spectrum. It’s miserable on a constant low level. #menopause #HRT

A friend has been talking about this one on FB and a number of other cis women have said 'yeah, same' so this condition isn't rare. And the repeated UTIs as a result of tissue thinning in much older cis women can affect cognition; I saw it in my own grandmother, who could appear dotty when what she needed was antibiotics.

Gwenfar :plantmage6:
2/2

For now, I'm waiting for the ultrasound, & it's possible the low B12 may be the cause (despite getting plenty of B12 in my diet). But it also may be the case that nothing is wrong, and I'll just go on bleeding anyway.

Like a lot of people, I assumed that once I went through menopause, no more bleeding. Apart from a brief mention in one book which said post menopausal bleeding should be checked, no-one mentioned the 50%/10 years thing. And it seems like something we should know.

2/2
#Menopause #MECFS

Gwenfar :plantmage6:
I'm sharing this here because this is something I didn't know about, despite having read quite a bit about menopause.

Despite being post menopausal & on HRT, I still get irregular bleeding. I've seen a GP about it, & asked how often this occurs.

She said: 50% of people who go through menopause will go on to have post menopausal bleeding. Furthermore, in some cases, it may continue for up to 10 years after menopause.

Now, there may be issues that need addressing, so it's important to see a GP. They should at least, refer you to have an ultrasound. They need to make sure there aren't any problems such as endo etc, causing the bleeding.

You should also have a full round of blood tests to include things like Thyroid, B12, Folate, Diabetes, etc, because some of these things can cause bleeding. Almost everything came back as perfect, except for my B12 levels, which my GP described as 'horrifically low'. I'll be getting B12 injections to try and fix this.

There is also the point that there have been literally no research on the impacts ME/CFS has on menopause, so we don't know if that has an impact or not.

1/2

#Menopause #MECFS
