Tom<p>Saw some mason bees today on the catnip and lavender. They don't pose for the camera.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/NativePollinators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NativePollinators</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/MasonBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MasonBee</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bees</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/insects" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>insects</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pollinators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollinators</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/catnip" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>catnip</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OsmiaLignariaPropinqua" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OsmiaLignariaPropinqua</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FlowerWithBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FlowerWithBee</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BloomScrollingWithBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BloomScrollingWithBee</span></a></p>
Ele Willoughby, PhD<p>Still obsessed with the cutest nesting strategy going. The Eastern Snail Shell Mason Bee (Osmia conjuncta) is a small North American blue bee which makes nests in suitable empty snail shells! In my linocut I show this adorable little pollinator with a Cepaea shell. Each print is 8” by 8” on delicate Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.</p><p><a href="https://spore.social/tags/linocut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linocut</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/printmaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>printmaking</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/sciart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sciart</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/masonBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>masonBee</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/Osmia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Osmia</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/nativeBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nativeBee</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/pollinator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollinator</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/mastoart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mastoart</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/1401318897" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">minouette.etsy.com/listing/140</span><span class="invisible">1318897</span></a></p>
Ele Willoughby, PhD<p>Thinking about native plants and native pollinators, this is an important local bee, Osmia Lignaria, known as the orchard mason bee, or blue orchard bee, in a lino block print on Japanese kozo (mulberry) paper with gorgeous, blue washi chine collé (collaged fine Japanese paper) pollinating a blueberry flower. </p><p>We often think of bees as living in hives, but these bees live in 🧵</p><p><a href="https://spore.social/tags/linocut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linocut</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/printmaking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>printmaking</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/wildBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wildBee</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/masonBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>masonBee</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/Osmia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Osmia</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/blueberry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>blueberry</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/pollinators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollinators</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/sciart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sciart</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/ManufacteredEcosystems" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ManufacteredEcosystems</span></a> <a href="https://spore.social/tags/mastoArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mastoArt</span></a></p>
Colin Purrington<p>Georgia mason bee (Osmia georgica) exiting her nesting tunnel after depositing a load of pollen. I don't think I've ever seen one on any of the flowers in my yard but they are supposed to be generalists. That said, it's reported (by Paula Sharp &amp; Ross Eatman) that they adore fleabane, positioning their head in the center of the flower and spinning around. <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/MasonBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MasonBee</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/InsectHotel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>InsectHotel</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/BeeHotel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BeeHotel</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/osmia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>osmia</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/bee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bee</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/bees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bees</span></a> <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/insect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>insect</span></a></p>

Graham Ward<p>Mason Bees are one of our most important pollinators, particularly for fruit trees like apples that are in blossom in early April. <br>I've had several simple bee 'hotels' on my shed for a few years. <br>My simple bee hotel design uses a 15cm length of an old fence post with nine 7 or 8 mm holes. The holes are about 12cm deep i.e. they don't go right through. <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/MasonBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MasonBee</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.green/tags/allotment" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>allotment</span></a></p>
Visions of Napa<p>We made a bee house. Most of the parts are leftover wood and hardware, but we did purchase the hollow reeds. We plan on harvesting some bamboo for larger bore reeds. No residents have moved in yet. </p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/WildBees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WildBees</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/bees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bees</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/MasonBee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MasonBee</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/pollinators" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pollinators</span></a></p>
