Working on a fun commission for a regional map of a home brew setting.
Working on a fun commission for a regional map of a home brew setting.
This week saw the release of Dark Deity 2, a fantastic turn-based CRPG by Sword & Axe LLC. They commissioned me to create the map of Verroa, a lore rich fantasy world that proved a prefect fit for my approach to map making! Such a fun project to contribute to!
A fantasy map is a useful tool, not just for players to chart their journey but for GMs to bring their home brew world to life!
For this week’s #throwbackthursday, here are The Lands of Zimara, a map commission from a few years ago.
How are your gaming opportunities looking for the weekend? Are you dwelling deeper into a long running campaign, or will you be charting new adventures?
No matter if you are prepping your next adventure or getting to play with your group, any opportunity to spend time with our tabletop hobbies is reason enough to celebrate! Wishing you great times this weekend!
When I create black & white maps such as this one for @cawoodpublishing ‘s Ghosts of Wrath adventure, currently funding on Backerkit, the process comes down to two steps: sketching and inking!
Also, share the crowdfunding campaign with your D&D and TTRPG friends: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/cawood-publishing/the-ghosts-of-wrath-adventure-for-5e-and-other-ttrpgs
I’m currently working on some great commissions including some private ones such as this one I did over a year ago! I love helping Game Masters bring their campaigns to life!
Map making is also about finding ways for the vast, emptier spaces to tell a story of their own. Myths and legends also are great tools to show what could be there, without any certainty.
Hand-drawing a #ttrpg #battlemap every day until I get better! Day 11:
It’s not just all caves and dungeons! At my table, and in my maps, there’s also rolling hills and vineyards. And so much more!

Lies of the Land: Painted Maps in Late Medieval and Early Modern France by Camille Serchuk, 2025

What would it look like if you made an elevation map of Tacoma that looked like felt? I followed a tutorial by the great John Nelson to make this one a while back.
Hoping to pick up some more fun local map projects here soon. #mapmaking #tacoma #gis
It’s never as easy as 1, 2, 3 but having a certain amount of discipline in my process helps a lot and enables me to focus on the story that needs supporting.a
Where did your adventures take you and your friends this weekend? In case your exploits are in need of recording, I create maps that celebrate the places you explored as well as what lies ahead!
Work on three more maps for the successfully crowdfunded “The Fall of Rivenhelm” adventure by Cawood Publishing has started!
The Scottish blog No Rerolls decided to write a post about The Voyager’s Workshop! Very humbling to see that my work is appreciated far and wide. Thanks, Tavendale!

A look back at an older set of maps for #throwbackthursday ! Paleo Gaming commissioned me to create a map of their fantasy setting, Draconia. I also got the chance to create a large map of one of its main continents, Tristor. Even though the maps are in sepia, they are filed with tons of flavourful storytelling seeds!
