Here is my latest machining project. In the upper left corner it shows a letter holder with handle attached. This four inch, single line letter holder is what my letter sets come with. I made two six inch letter holders so I can stamp book bindings and I made dual line letter holders so I can stamp multiple lines at the same time. The letter slots are tricky because of the small size and tight tolerance. My instructors loved I was making this for practical use. #Machining #LeatherCraft #CAD

it has been a wild week, on saturday i rescued a beautiful kitty from the middle of an 8 lane highway, on tuesday and wednesday my boyfriend and i dragged home two bridgeport cnc mills that we plan on refurbishing. now i’m sitting on the couch, getting ready to go get some groceries, which is, thankfully, the only thing i have to do today.

i hope to get back to outfit posting soon, lately i’ve just been wearing my “get dirty” clothes, which are now very dirty!

okay #fediverse #3dprinting & #machining folks: what are your digital calipers of choice?
My cheap chinese ones eat batteries like there's no tomorrow and I'm kinda fed up with it. Should I just buy a bunch of batteries, do some modding with a hardwired switch?

Or is there actually something usable between the 5Eur battery eaters and the 150Eur Mitutoyos? What do you recommend?

I'd like you all to think about learning more about #Machining and #Maintenance.

If the fascists and christians go through with their plan to wreck the economy so that the oligarchs can buy it for pennies on the dollar, there will be a lot of work ahead of us to keep our infrastructure running.

We've lost a generation of machinists to the last 50 years of outsourcing everything overseas. The remaining ones are aging out. That generation was sexist as hell.

Community colleges in NY and California are inexpensive, and we have a great machining program here at Laney College in Oakland.

Lathes and mills, when maintained, last forever. Keep up the skills, keep up the tools, we can keep our communities running, even while the thousand Galt's Gorean Gulches that US men voted for falter.

I've occasionally considered making an optical center punch, and this video makes me think about it again. If I did more layout (vs. DRO) work I'd be more likely to invest in actually making one. But since I still haven't bought a drill press and just use my mill for drill press duty, not much point. Yet. ☺
