While not credited as such “The Cube” seems to take a good deal of inspiration from French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre’s “No Exit” (Available to read for free here: archive.org/details/noexitothe) and American Science Fiction writer & poet Thomas M. Disch’s “The Squirrel Cage” (Available to read for free here: archive.org/details/fundamenta)

“The Cube” was made as part of “The NBC Experiment in Television”, a late 60s/early 70s anthology series that was basically a more artistic version of “Playhouse 90”. Henson & Co. made 3 films for the series: “Youth 68”- a documentary, “The Cube”- an existentialist drama and “Inside My Head”- a back door pilot for an expanded version of a previous Henson muppet sketch

"When the River Meets the Sea" is a song written by composer and lyricist #PaulWilliams for #JimHenson's 1977 TV special #EmmetOttersJugBandChristmas. Emmet Otter, the title character, and his mother, Alice Otter sang this song together. The song was later sung by John Denver and #RobinTheFrog on the 1979 album #JohnDenverAndTheMuppetsAChristmasTogether. Though written for one Christmas story and featured in another, the lyrics are not holiday-related.
