Nove<p>This evening, in the <a href="https://mastodon-belgium.be/tags/friterie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>friterie</span></a>, I overheard a fascinating conversation about <a href="https://mastodon-belgium.be/tags/ironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ironing</span></a>. Apparently, the younger <a href="https://mastodon-belgium.be/tags/generation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>generation</span></a> mostly uses <a href="https://mastodon-belgium.be/tags/steamironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>steamironing</span></a> these days.</p><p>😅 But, um, me—well, us, I mean—honestly, we hardly iron at all. Maybe twice a year? It might be less. It seems like something from the past, though I was surprised to hear it's still quite common and a small talk subject...</p><p>The perfect topic to test Mastodon's polling features.</p><p>So, Mastodon community, how do you iron?</p>

Ailbhe<p>Today I used my new iron for the first time. It's big and unwieldy and inconvenient BUT it's cordless, does steam, and has a detachable ceramic plate with brushes and a foam pad thing so it can be used on velvet and upholstery.</p><p>I've been flattening out where the boiled wool lining meets the velvet inner lapel and facings. <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/ironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ironing</span></a></p>
Ailbhe<p>I've been pressing the pleat in the middle of the back lining and reminded strongly of doing my school uniform, because that's the last time I put creases in heavy wool. But I'm upstairs, so instead of the breadboard I used a bit of wood I keep for pushing the window open. <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/Sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sewing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/Ironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ironing</span></a></p>
Pocket Toku<p>All throughout my childhood, cartoons and other media convinced me that if I left an iron still for even a second, it would burn a hole clean through the fabric. 🔥 I still have to actively remind myself that it's okay to leave it there, just a little bit.<br>.<br>.<br><a href="https://artistalley.space/tags/pockettoku" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pockettoku</span></a> <a href="https://artistalley.space/tags/inprogress" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>inprogress</span></a> <a href="https://artistalley.space/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://artistalley.space/tags/ironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ironing</span></a> <a href="https://artistalley.space/tags/pressing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pressing</span></a> <a href="https://artistalley.space/tags/fabric" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fabric</span></a> <a href="https://artistalley.space/tags/interfacing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>interfacing</span></a></p>

Ailbhe<p>Today I finished the <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/mending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mending</span></a> pile, including the <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a>, glue gun, and stapler subcategories. So tomorrow I'll have to stop procrastinating and just do some <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/ironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ironing</span></a>.</p>
Ailbhe<p>The <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/mending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mending</span></a> also involved <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/ironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ironing</span></a>. FFS. I've zigzagged over the edges of some fraying napkins, teatowels, handtowels etc, added reinforcing tape to a shirt collar stand, and pinned the patch on some pyjama trousers but wisely decided not to sew that until tomorrow because I'm still tired. <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a></p>
Ailbhe<p>OR I could try to make my own extra wide velvet bias binding, but that's <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/ironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ironing</span></a> again.</p>
Ailbhe<p>I wanted to do <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> but it turns out that first I need to do <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/ironing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ironing</span></a>. I've ironed the paper pattern and cut out the bits I need and folded the rest back into the packet, and I've read the instructions and figured out what fabric I need, and next I need to iron the blasted fabric. This is ridiculous. I don't want an ironing hobby.</p>
