shellsharks<p>A writeup I did last year after one of Reddit's more severe enshittification episodes…</p><p><a href="https://shellsharks.com/threadiversal-travel" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">shellsharks.com/threadiversal-</span><span class="invisible">travel</span></a></p><p>Since then, I have not used Reddit and I continue to invest time and energy into the <a href="https://shellsharks.social/tags/threadiverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>threadiverse</span></a>, namely <a href="https://shellsharks.social/tags/Lemmy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Lemmy</span></a> (though I am open to trying out more platforms as they mature).</p><p>Come check out the discussions at infosec.pub! shellsharks<p>The /c/cybersecurity community on Infosec.pub has new icon and banner artwork courtesy of <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.bida.im/@bolo" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>bolo</span></a></span> ! It already makes the space look nicer if you ask me 🎨 😄</p><p>Go check it out and if you haven't already, join the community and start sharing and interacting! <a href="https://infosec.pub/c/cybersecurity" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">infosec.pub/c/cybersecurity</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://shellsharks.social/tags/infosecpub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infosecpub</span></a> <a href="https://shellsharks.social/tags/lemmy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lemmy</span></a> <a href="https://shellsharks.social/tags/jerryverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>jerryverse</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://infosec.pub/c/cybersecurity" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>cybersecurity</span></a></span></p>
shellsharks<p>For everyone creating communities (<a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Lemmy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Lemmy</span></a> instances) or "magazines" on <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Kbin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kbin</span></a> instances be mindful of the very real deficiencies that exist related to moderation, as <span class="h-card"><a href="https://hachyderm.io/@thisismissem" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>thisismissem</span></a></span> writes about here (<a href="https://hachyderm.io/@thisismissem/110550824230711531" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">hachyderm.io/@thisismissem/110</span><span class="invisible">550824230711531</span></a>). We're all both excited about the promise the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> brings and equally pissed at what is going on over on Reddit but there is real *danger* in growing communities using software that might not be ready for it. Read Emelia's post to gain more understanding of the potential pitfalls (and guidance around moderation). One thing I'll add is that botching this migration due to immature software could turn people off from the idea of Reddit-esque fediverse communities indefinitely.</p><p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://infosec.exchange/@jerry" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>jerry</span></a></span> I'm certainly no expert on community creation/management much less moderating mid-large size communities but there are certainly others within the .infosec sphere (👀 <span class="h-card"><a href="https://cybersecurity.theater/@tweedge" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>tweedge</span></a></span>) who could weigh in. Maybe it would be helpful to post a guide of some kind (not saying *you* need to create it but you could help market it) which fairly warns <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/fedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fedia</span></a> and <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/infosecpub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infosecpub</span></a> channel admins that moderation tools are lackluster and to tread carefully as they scale out. Happy to volunteer my own time/perspectives on adding something to a larger wiki for your various Fediversal properties as needed!</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/redditMigration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>redditMigration</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/FediverseMigration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FediverseMigration</span></a></p>
