Alright, people of #Mastodon!
I just pushed the button — #ManfredApp is now live on the App Store for #iOS, #iPadOS, and #macOS!

Manfred is a lightweight, opinionated Mastodon client focused on simplicity.

It’s still missing a few features, so for now it’s completely free — grab it, try it, and let me know what you think!

Feedback welcome here or via the app. Boosts appreciated! :mastodon:

Building the latest version of samba from source on my Raspberry Pi 5 because whenever I access my share from iPhone or iPad - even though I log in as a registered user - I only have read access.

On a Mac in Finder everything works perfectly well - just like on other Linux/Windows systems.

Hopefully newer SMB version will help.
Or if you guys know what might be the reason - help is greatly appreciated 🙌.

When you want to export a video from an #iPad, transferring to a far more reasonable filesystem over on a #linux laptop, what app do you use to do that? No I don't want to use AirDrop, as I have only one Mac device (and never want another).

The Files app in iPad OS can connect to an SMB server, but only in read-only mode. The SMB server absolutely supports read-write, when other kinds of client connect. This is mildly infuriating, as this "one-way street" behaviour in iPadOS is clearly a walled-garden sort of limitation.

I found a #Warpinator-compatible app for #iPadOS, but it just transfers one file at a time. This is the best I could come up with. Alas, there is also no #syncthing for iPadOS. 🤷

Note: Syncthing would be my preferred way (I use it to sync between Android <-> Linux as my goto network file sync solution).

Edit: a workable solution was eventually found to make SMB/#samba read-write: c.im/@sbb/114340306011617966

C.IMBhante Subharo :xmpp: (@sbb@c.im)@Ann_Effes@berlin.social @in_sympathy@mastodon.social I too needed those hints. The #samba "fruit" module 😂 was very helpful, as i have an #iPad with #iPadOS 18.

@ulfi I can relate, as I recently tried out #monal for #iPadOS. While praiseworthy for being the honest effort that it is, it doesn't have anywhere the bling-bling that the other chat apps have.

At this time, emoji reactions don't work yet in Monal, so with that shortcoming alone, I can't recommend #XMPP to any of the #Apple followers in my life. They almost certainly have high expectations for any new apps, for such functionality

@iznogoud Here are some screenshots. Note the choices to Add a "Calendar" or "Subscription Calendar". Adding a (normal) Calendar *is for iCloud only*. There is no drop-down menu if you tap "Account - iCloud" in the second screenshot, allowing, say, a CalDAV calendar instead.

Especially note that 3rd screenshot (of the #iPadOS Calendar app) showing that "Add Subscription Calendar" must be read-only. The word "CalDAV" is not anywhere to be seen (as though to try to erase the very word "CalDAV" from the common parlance), but a CalDAV URL can indeed be used. The implication here is that a remote #CalDAV #calendar can't be accessed read-write. Which is true in that app.
