Paws 2 Spindle<p>Here's the final result blocked &amp; under more natural light. It's difficult to get good crisp focus on my phone, AND good detail with white-on-white!</p><p>For this yarn, I'm definitely glad I got something less than 3.5 mm to work with! 2.5 mm seems to be the sweet spot where the gaps in the stitches close up nicely, and going down below that doesn't add much improvement.</p><p>I still need to knit a swatch of the Rio Heather yarn (#6) but there's no rush. I'm planning a project for it, and I want an equal amount of pure white yarn of similar weight to pair with it.</p><p>That will be my next spinning challenge: producing a specific weight to match. Everything I've done so far has been just spinning what feels right. I might return to the Turkish spindle for this, because that's what I used for #6. </p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Handspun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Chiengora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chiengora</span></a></p>
Paws 2 Spindle<p>Some more shots from different lighting angles.</p><p>I'm curious whether the blocking process will help much for the very curly and chunky yarns at the end. Even if not, I like the look of the reverse-stockinette lozenges!</p><p>On the finer end, the front side of the stockinette really shines. I'm surprised at how nicely the final 8.a section is coming out, since the yarn is rather dense and in places overspun and nobbly: the resulting fabric is dense, but surprisingly soft to the touch. It reminds me a bit of my warmest wool winter socks.</p><p>It makes me wonder whether husky wool would be particularly good for winter socks, both for warmth and for wear.</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Handspun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Chiengora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chiengora</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/knitting" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>knitting</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/spinning" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>spinning</span></a></span></p>
Paws 2 Spindle<p>The Husky Spinning Story Scarf continues to grow! I brought it outside today to take some photos in natural light (and with Tonttu's supervision).</p><p>I completed all 11 panels of yarns I wanted to include, so now I'm finishing out the full length with the remainder of the 8.a ball I've been using for the seed border, but with one long panel of stockinette. I wasn't sure about the blocky design early on, but now I'm liking how it looks, especially the gradient from chunky to fine.</p><p>I've been weighing the remaining ball ever 20 rows (out and back), which adds another 5" to the length. I estimate I can get another 10" out of this ball with enough for a final seed border. But I can extend it a bit further by frogging the swatch, which I think will be worth the effort.</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Handspun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Chiengora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chiengora</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/knitting" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>knitting</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/spinning" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>spinning</span></a></span></p>
consumableJoy<p>I completed a 3rd handspun hexiflat (top middle). It’s a little larger due to thicker yarn but by the time I have 500 more and sew them up I’m sure that’ll block right out”. Plus I’ll have lots of slightly different sizes to mix and match. I wonder if I’ll remember the provenance of each of my hexiflats. Maybe the handspun ones, if I take notes. Bottom middle, a hexiflat made from regular fingering sock yarn (not handspun). <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>handspun</span></a> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/handspinning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>handspinning</span></a> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/spinning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spinning</span></a> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/FiberArts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FiberArts</span></a> <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/BeekeepersQuilt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BeekeepersQuilt</span></a></p>
Kymberly<p>One sock down. The handspun yarn is a bit thick and uneven, so these will be the warmest socks ever. I’m pleased this one fits well with a 2 row boomerang short row heel, and a ribbed back side in the arch and calf.</p><p>Solace lace socks by Kelene Kinnersly designs, Exmoor sock fiber by John Arbon (handspun 2ply).</p><p><a href="https://old.mermaid.town/tags/The100DayProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>The100DayProject</span></a> <a href="https://old.mermaid.town/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://old.mermaid.town/tags/handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>handspun</span></a> <a href="https://old.mermaid.town/tags/spinning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spinning</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/fiberarts" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>fiberarts</span></a></span> <a href="https://old.mermaid.town/tags/SpoonieCrafts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SpoonieCrafts</span></a></p>
Paws 2 Spindle<p>So, now what?</p><p>The piece is nearly 100cm long at this point, so perhaps over 1/2 its final length. I have 108g left of the 8.a ball, which started at 241g and 451 yd, so I estimate I've got ~200 yd remaining. That's a bit concerning because that means I've used over half the ball already creating the seed border.</p><p>My original plan had been to complete the scarf with the 8.a ball with one final long stripe of stockinette-in-seed, but now I'm not sure I've got enough. I'm currently knitting out a bit more of 8.a in this pattern to measure how much yarn that eats up and project how much further I can go.</p><p>I still have the original hotpad-sized swatch, which I could frog for additional length. I think 8.b would stand up to that better than 5.b did.</p><p>If necessary, I can bring back 5.a, though I'd like to save that for some other project if I can.</p><p>Anyhow, that's it for now! Thanks for following along so far!</p><p>End 🧵 3/3</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Handspun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Chiengora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chiengora</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/knitting" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>knitting</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/spinning" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>spinning</span></a></span></p>
Paws 2 Spindle<p>Yarn 8.b is a small ball of 2-ply that I created after the first cone ran out while plying 8.a. It's my finest yarn yet, at 25-30 wpi, which I decided to call call "light fingering". Like 5.a, it's surprisingly sturdy for its weight, while being only 2-ply to boot!</p><p>(5.b, my previous thinnest 2-ply yarn that was falling apart, measured at 15 wpi, though I suspect that was at the thicker end.)</p><p>I really ought to to have knit this with smaller needles and an increased stitch count, but 3.5 mm is the smallest I have. It's what I used for the seed border all along and for yarn #5, so I decided to just go with it. The stitches are clearly more open than 8.a, revealing variation in yarn thickness and my own knitting consistency! That's all part of the story.</p><p>It's honestly not BAD, just not as crisp and polished as the 8.a panel.</p><p>🧵 2/</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Handspun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Chiengora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chiengora</span></a><br><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/knitting" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>knitting</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/spinning" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>spinning</span></a></span></p>
Paws 2 Spindle<p>On a bit of a roll, I've just finished yarn #8, a&amp;b, my final spinning project for this scarf!</p><p>I skipped 6, the heather gray yarn from Rio, our first husky, which is limited and being saved for a special project, and also 7, which was the tiny ball from fur collected by our friend Kio on our final vacation with Gypsy a year ago. That's been gifted to Kio.</p><p>8.a is the giant ball that I've been using for the seed border of this project. I already did one swatch in preparation for this project, so no new swatch was needed.</p><p>I'm surprised how nice this yarn has turned out to be! The singles were fine and tightly wound, so there is very little loft or stretch, but that also means that it's a sturdy, dependable and generally quite even triple-ply yarn to work with, and it feels soft to the touch because of the halo, even if it's not terribly squishy. The seed stitch has a wonderful tactile texture!</p><p>🧵 1/</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Handspun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Chiengora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chiengora</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/knitting" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>knitting</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/spinning" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>spinning</span></a></span></p>

Paws 2 Spindle<p>The previous ball/yarn, 5.a, is clearly my favorite. It was the culmination of 3x 2oz singles spun on my EEW Nano 2, plied together on the EEW 6.1: my most careful and even spinning to date.</p><p>And it shows! You can't really see in the photos, but every stitch in the 5.a section is a wonderful balance of fuzzy soft and consistent thickness. I only used ~10% of the ball, so I have plenty left for another project!</p><p>5.b was a small ball of 2-ply that I created after the first of 3 2oz bobbins ran out. It is also nice and fuzzy, and surprisingly thick, so I'm using the same stitch reduction, relative to the surrounding seed stitches for this one. This will be a much nicer final destination for this yarn than the random-pattern swatch it formerly occupied!</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/HandSpun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HandSpun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Chiengora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chiengora</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/spinning" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>spinning</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/fiberarts" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>fiberarts</span></a></span></p>
Paws 2 Spindle<p>Knitting on the Husky Spinning Story Scarf continues! I've finished 5.a and am on to 5.b.* After this, I have only 2 more yarns to go!</p><p>5.b was the ball that I made my first swatch with, just to see how my fuzzy husky yarn would behave when knit with various stitch patterns. I'd used the whole ball for the swatch, and didn't really see a need to keep it around, so I frogged it and am giving the yarn new life!</p><p>* Numbering follows that in my Stash: <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/people/Paws2Spindle/stash" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">ravelry.com/people/Paws2Spindl</span><span class="invisible">e/stash</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/HandSpun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HandSpun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Chiengora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chiengora</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/spinning" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>spinning</span></a></span></p>
